Wasn’t it just the most superb sunset last night? I’d stopped off in Manuka to pick up some supplies for my mum and was literally stopped in my tracks when I glanced up while crossing the road (luckily no cars in sight!).

I took a couple of snaps in Manuka then pondered driving up Red Hill to take some more before remembering the stunning sunset photos taken during the one day cricket international at Manuka Oval late last year and heading there instead.

If you haven’t already booked tickets for the Prime Minister’s XI match on the night of Wednesday, February 15, here’s just one more reason to do so. Imagine sitting inside the ground watching Adam Voges score a lightning-fast century with a sunset like this as the backdrop?

Here’s the Facebook Live video of the scene last night.

OK, yes, I know I got a bit carried away there. Of course every sunset is different and no one can predict what we’ll see on February 15. One thing I do know is that I’ll be making sure I’m there with my phone well charged.

It was a privilege to step onto the edge of that very special ground (gingerly in my soft-soled shoes, I promise, Cricket ACT) in order to share the view with you all.

These are truly spectacular sunset shots over Manuka. Does art imitate nature or nature imitate art? When I see skies like those I’m reminded of a Monet. Or a Turner. Or a Bierstadt:

I am so glad you captured and posted those moments.
I was just starting my evening walk yesterday and discovered my camera batteries were flat.

It was one of those “I wouldn’t be dead for quids” times in my life and now (with your permission) I will have them to look at at anytime.

I can see why natural events like this inspired some of the greatest art works, like this Constable:

Just to clarify the image in the link is not a Constable painting but another sunset like the ones Constable was inspired to paint.

Agreed, last night is now known officially as ‘the most colourful half hour my life’! I couldn’t resist taking a few photos from my car as I sat at traffic lights. Great photos and video from your device, was it a camera phone?
