Speech therapy drop in centres are go

Joy Burch has made known the Speech Pathology and Physiotherapy Drop-In Clinics have begun:

Minister for Disability, Children and Young People Joy Burch said parents could directly access information and advice from health professionals across Canberra without a referral.

“In 2012 more than 1200 children were seen through Drop-In clinics, with around half of these children being referred to Therapy ACT for further assessment or intervention,” Ms Burch said.

“The Clinics give parents the opportunity to discuss their child’s communication skills with a Speech Pathologist or their child’s gross motor development, posture, movement and walking with a Physiotherapist.

“For example, a parent of a two and a half year old who has started stuttering on their words can see a Speech Pathologist at the next suitable Speech Pathology Drop-In Clinic and be given information on stuttering, discuss how the condition is affecting their child and if and when treatment of the stutter is most appropriate.
