Hi all,

Have noticed with roadworks travelling north on Barton Hwy just before Gungahlin Drv overpass that the speed limit has been lowered from 80 to 60 kmph. Does anybody know whether the camera has been recalibrated to the lower speed? Has anybody received any fines for travelling at 70+ kmph?

Cheers

Hey “FoMoCo” (if that is your real name), I thought that Camera could pivot and take photos of both directions? Doesn’t it have two flashes? Or am I getting muddled? Maybe we should have a beer and discuss it?

FoMoCo, the Yass-bound lane has a 60-zone for roadworks encompassing the area where the camera ‘targets’. But the information here seems to indicate that camera would not have been re-set to book people doing between 60 and 80.
The city-bound one exists in an area where the limit has returned to 80 after the roadworks , which are around the overpass.

Yes that is all correct except for the fact that even though the camera is pointing to the front of the Yass bound vehicles it is not actually “monitoring” those vehicles as the camera is slightly twisted to the rear of Diskson bound vehicles. Therefore the Yass bound vehicles do not have anything to worry about regardless of speed, camera limit etc…

The camera is only tracking traffic traveling towards Dickson, it is not monitoring traffic heading towards Hall. Correct me if I am wrong but isnt the speed limit increased back to 80km/h just before the camera? So that the both the speed limit and the camera limit are 80km/h? and they have only covered all the speed camera warning signs with 60km/h signs because where those signs are placed it is still 60km/h????

Sniff Sniff, think I smell troll……….

Seems to be working pretty well too

They don’t change the speed cameras limits, from experience the contractors doing roadworks don’t even touch the giant speed camera speed limit signs, so if they ever did you would have a valid argument that you were doing the signposted speed limit.

The interesting thing is that the speed limit is 80kph for those heading east (having just left the roadworks) and 60kph for those heading west (about to enter the roadworks). If the camera is capable of catching people in both directions, then they’d have to have it set to 80 anyway.

Not so interesting – There are a set of units for each lane.

Stop and have a think about the families and children of the road workers at that site. The way that all drivers should behave around active road work sites will suddenly become bleedingly obvious.

Especially for the 16 hours a day when there’s noone working there.

but if you go through there under 80km/h you won’t be fined.

You will if you’re doing >60 and Mr Plod is watching.

My earlier comment wasn’t intended to endorse/encourage speeding, by the way. The camera is only covering a zone that’s still 80 – that was pretty much the entirety of my point. Don’t be a dick – stick to the posted speed limits. As already noted, roadwork speed limits exist for a reason and, believe it or not, that reason it not simply to annoy or inconvenience you.

No, the camera is still 80km/h. They have blocked out the signs and put 60km/h on them as not to confuse people whether it’s 80 or 60. The offical speed is 60km cause of the roadwork, but if you go through there under 80km/h you won’t be fined.

Stick to the speed limit and you will have no problems.

No, it hasn’t. The camera has, for the last couple of years, been pointing only at the east-bound lane which, by the time you get to the camera, is back up to 80.

It shouldn’t be.

“Fixed cameras will operate during road works but will not take images of motorists at speeds lower than the usual speed limit for that section of road.”

Why do you want to know? You do travel at the suggested speed limits right? Stick to 60kmh and everything will be fine.
