I’m sure I’m not imagining that these things have virtually disappeared from our roads.

Havn’t seen one for at least a week or 2.

Any hot goss on why they may have been pulled?

I passed one on Streeton drive last night. I was doing the speed limit while everyone zoomed past me.. they would have got 5 or 6 people just in that instance..

Not that I’m a complete granny driver, but sometimes so many people overtake me while I’m doing the exact speed limit that I wonder if my speedo is working properly..

It isn’t. Very few do. Vast majority of modern speedos seem to read a fairly reliable 8 – 10% high. People with GPSs get to see this in action.
(yes, I know GPSs aren’t 100%, but they’re pretty good … and reliably better than the average speedo.)

Factor in whatever margin over the limit applies before an offence is triggered, and most people can go past a $peed camera whilst indicating plenty over the limit with (im)perfect safety.

When driving to Melbourne those highway speed check billboards have been pretty spot on with my GPS, and the GPS reads 110 while the speedo reads 119!

Maybe the Greed Camera van had the engine running so that the heater would work? Or maybe they need it running to operate the camera equipment?

And the van you saw running may have been whoever allowed out of custody the little shit who ran that woman down outside Canberra Hospital doing the honourable thing.

…and with that, boys and girls, HenryBG teetered off the edge into feces-smearing crazy land.

You want crazy?

How about this bit of thinking from the judge who released Monfries to carry on with his crime spree:

Thus, the logic of Australian white society is not always a sure sign of the approach that should be adopted in the assessment of evidence from those of Aboriginal descent.

Yes, boys and girls, there is “white logic” and then there is alternative logic, and they call *me* the crazy one. Mwahahahaha.

Tell me something about these camera vans. When they are there on the side of the road do they have someone in them? Haven’t seen anyone in the front; is there someone in the back holding a radar gun? I’ve ridden by them on my bike and noticed the engine running.

How can you fail to see the guy sitting in the back pointing the camera out the back window?

Buy a pair of glasses.

Here is a Norwegian study re speedo errors on many different auto manufacturers which include tyre dimensions.

According to Motor and Wheels road tests most speedo’s read 1-5% over actual speed, not 8-10% over.

Stick your cruise control on 89 in an 80 zone, never been booked.
120 all the way down to Sydney, past cops with their radar guns, never been booked.

Only time I was ever booked was on Majura road – it’s 90 almost all the way along it, so I had my cruise control set to 99. Unfortunately there’s a short stretch of 80 as it approaches the Federal Highway and the van got me. The speed I was booked for was “90” exactly.

School holidays?

Speaking of which, why are (certain) roadwork sites vacant during the hols? I know of one where the electronic sign has been changed to say ‘Roadworkers have families too’ (Or something similar).
Does that mean in the school hols, they also get the two weeks off? They must have an awesome union!

The preceding ‘slide'(?) says something like “slow down for safety”… The implication being that road workers are not that keen on being hit by idiotic motorists who cannot give them the courtesy of slowing to a speed that virtually guarantees their survival should the unimaginable happen.

I’m guessing you are not seeing the workers because they are avoiding be an intrusion on peak driving hours on the main roads you commute.

Yeah, I checked the sign again yesterday and it must be related to slowing down – not their break for the hols.
However, they changed the sign to say that at the time when they are not working there. For the last 3+m they have been working there ~7am-5pm+ (i.e. incl Canberra ‘peak’ hours), and the last 2 weeks they haven’t. That just seems strange to me with so much work still to do on the site. Therefore my comment on planning rosters and scheduling work. My 2c….

How many other businesses (esp .ones they adversely affect the community the longer they take) get similar breaks for *all* staff? Surely a bit of shift rotation etc could keep work progressing? Geez..

Hey, election candidates, the first one who says they will make roadworkers more efficient (I think it’s called a ‘reform’ in political jargon!) gets my vote! Takers?

End rant! Hahahaha!

Looks to me like they’re building multiple start and stop points, so the round-a-bouts and exits along the stretch aren’t going to matter.

P2P 1 = Beasley to Sulwood
P2P 2 = Sulwood to Atkins / Langdon
P2P 3 = Atkins / Langdon to either Vosper or Fincham (can’t remember)
P2P 4 = Vosper or Fincham to Drakeford

That’s what it looks like they’re installing anyway.

I know the perfect place for them this Saturday…O’Halloran Cct

They’ve succeeded in their goal of slowing down Canberra drivers and are no longer needed.

I haven’t seen a Canberra driver breaking the law in months.

Correct.

They are at the shop being re-tooled as Indicator Vans and Fog-Light Vans.

Gold!

BUT if you want a juicy pre-Election conspiracy, consider this: the Athllon Drive P2P cameras had footings laid, wiring done, barriers installed, and signage poles put up over 2 months ago. Since then – nothing. No installation of the actual cameras or their poles, or even “P2P cameras coming here” signs like were installed on Hindmarsh Drive.

Why would that be Katy & Co? I thought you liked to promote “road safety initiatives” like $peed cameras! So is the delay due to some ACT Govco stuff-up, or not wanting to (further) piss off Brindabella voters?

maybe someone has realised that the P2P camera is not going to get any customers with a roundabout in the middle of the stretch.

That’s right, their work here is done and they are now going to use their powers for good elsewhere.

School holidays?

I was surprised when I saw one yesterday, on a back street I don’t know the name of, near Weston Park in Yarralumla!

I suspect my point has been proved.

I would have expected about three people to have reported speed vans on their daily comute today.

There was one about halfway up Tillyard Drive on the Charnwood side on Wednesday morning.

Speed camera was in Williamson Street, Holder late last week.

Passed one on Drakeford Dr northbound yesterday evening.

Saw one in Stonehaven Cres Deakin and another in Canberra Ave next to Kingston Oval in the last few days.

I used to see them frequently on the 3 mains roads I use but it’s definitely a lot less now. I was wondering the same thing myself.

Maybe the fixed and P2P cameras are doing a good enough job for less money. Speaking of which, has anyone been caught at the P2P yet, or know anyone that has?
