Spitting blood on the police

Two ACT Policing officers were exposed to blood and saliva by an aggressive, abusive 28-year-old male outside a Canberra nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Around 2.15 on Sunday morning (July 31), members of the City Beats Team approached a small group causing a disturbance in Alinga St, Civic, and where one man was seen to be bleeding profusely from his nose.

The man began acting aggressively toward the officers and other members of the public, and refused police directions.

When police attempted to take him into custody for a breach of the peace, the man deliberately spat blood and saliva at the eyes and mouths of two officers. He was eventually subdued, handcuffed and conveyed to the ACT Watch House.

The 28-year-old Dunlop man was charged with three counts of causing harm to a Commonwealth public official, and one of obstructing a Commonwealth official. He was given Watch House bail yesterday, and directed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on August 8.

As a result of the incident, a male and a female police officer were required to be tested for potential exposure to viruses/pathogens, and will be monitored for ongoing potential health risks.

I would hate to be a cop in this day and age, it would be a scary job.
It would be hard not to shoot or give this wanker a touch up after doing something as filthy as that…just no respect at all.

OC spray probably should have been applied with vigour before this scumbag had a chance to spit on Police, but following the act of spitting I would have no problem with the officers serving a billy club sandwich to the offender.

I’m a little uncomfortable with the blood lust expressed. It’s kind of like a lynching mob without the racist overtones. Can I suggest that there are enough penalties in law to deter most people.

I think people are just angry really, things like this shouldn’t happen at all. No one should have blood purposely spat in their mouth and eyes, that’s just beyond disgusting. I don’t think normal people would actually need a law to tell them not to do this.

Also there only seems to be two comments suggesting a violent response. Other comments about this person needing to be punished by incarceration, or being controlled earlier with spray are quite valid in my opinion.

“Scum like this need to be in gaol.”

“or just shot on the spot….”

“Seriously, would we be any worse off?”

Yes, cost!

I suggest a lightweight, Hand operated harpoon gun, or a cross bow, something we can retreive the ammo from!

Yes. Best to get them BEFORE they get to jail otherwise the ACT Government (read Greens) will arm them with syringes to fill with their blood to use against us.

I wonder what the reaction would be if a visitor (not a prisioner or custodial officer, perhaps a spruiking politician) were to be stabbed by an inmate with a government funded needle? What would their rights be? Subordinate to those of the prisoner?

Yes, we still have you

Gee you are doing your fair share of trolling with useless comments today………..

Wow, absolutely disgusting behaviour. OC spray could have been put to good use on this person.

Because i’m too lazy and imcompetent to check for myself, are the new alcohol venue licensing laws in action? You know, the ones that are to make it super-expensive for venues to be open after midnight with the view to limiting late-night bars, and thus alcohol-related issues??
If so, they aren’t going that well. Is that 3 nasty booze-related incidents between 2am and 6am in the last two weeks?
If not, it will be interesting to see if they reduce the number of incidents like this.

Absolute filthy scum. They are obviously the direct result of a sexual relationship with first line relatives!

I hope the two officers concerned are okay and continue to remain so. As for the offender concerned, let’s hope that he has to share a cell with ‘Bubba’ for quite some time.

Who is teaching these inbreds how to act responsibly at nightclubs late at night? The courts need to come down harder on these thugs.
