Spook cable

Ever the stickbeak, after seeing little coloured lines appearing along the road and footpath on Cooyong St outside Target, when I saw an excavator unloading this morning, I had to ask the blokes what the project was.

“Spook cable”
“What’s a spook cable?”
“Government thing…” trails off seemingly realising he’s said something he shouldn’t…

So the secret installations dotted around town we hear about are being networked?

That’d be a cool cable to splice a junction into while it’s being laid.

If it’s got dot1x, then tapping your own cable on probably won’t help you.
Dot1x provides access control, not in-transit security.
I thought you were an MCSE?

TRUE… There is Spook, then there is Spook… having worked in many spook’sville areas (no don’t even bother asking), I understand the difference…

On that, yes I have a lot of faith in the Spooks…

All Target shoppers should be kept under surveillance, this is a good development.

You’ve got a little too much faith in the spooks there mate.

Documentation often gets a little funny on these sorts of jobs and with everything outsourced you just can’t get the help these days.

Also there’s spook and there’s spook.

If it truly was SPOOK CABLE, then the guy digging up the road wouldn’t even know what it was… Me thinks he was pulling your leg….

The whole idea of SPOOK is that no one knows (even the excavator driver)

or perhaps it’s as exciting as linking up the surveillance cameras throughout the Canberra Centre that the management uses to watch strange people etc

and also, if it’s a dark fibre network, they wouldn’t be digging it up, just throwing light down it i would imagine..

I saw S4anta today, and he didn’t see me. Now that’s spooky…

Conspiracy theory time: I read the article here and clicked to view the comments … and suddenly I couldn’t get to RiotACT anymore.

(Obviously I now have, as I’m writing this. Of course, you’ve all be replaced by secret squirrels and are compiling a huge dossier on me)

i also suspect that spectre-um of the puniushment could also exceed the ‘dead mans rule’ that governs capital punishment.

I’ll go home now.

it is a spook cable, the man said. a cable for ghosts to communicate with the living?

if you got flogged with one of these, would it taste like ‘ghoulash’?

If it’s got dot1x, then tapping your own cable on probably won’t help you.

Agree with S4anta. Probably ICON.

Two networks are possible,

ICON as suggested, or InTACT’s own dark fibre network. location suggests ATO ICON inbound

The AFP/spook world maintains it’s own telecommunications network with its own cables in the ground for security and redundacy. All very secret squirrell stuff.

Probably an ICON link for section 84
