After becoming a victim to Canberra’s recent wet weather, Sport for Women Day 2012 will now rock Stage88 in Commonwealth Park on Sunday 1 April from 11am-4pm.

Fittingly, the event will follow hot on the heels of 1000 women lining up in Commonwealth Park for the 2012 Women and Girls Fun Run.

“I support Sport for Women Day because every woman deserves the right to be involved in sport, whether it’s for pleasure or it’s your profession. Sport enhances people’s lives in so many ways. Be active, be healthy – expand yourself!!! ” Lauren Jackson.

The event will be a day full of action for the whole family with more than 25 demonstration sports to try, free exercise classes, free massages, free health checks and diet advice, or try something a bit different like skeet shooting or dragon boating.

The victorious Canberra United players will be on hand to kick around the soccer ball with future champions and some of our female Olympians and Paralympians will be there to chat to fans about their final preparations for London 2012.

Canberra United captain, Ellie Brush, talks about why she supports Sport for Women Day.

A mass choreographed dance that 5000 school children have been learning since the beginning of term will be the feature activity. Participants can learn the choreography online at and we will also teach the steps on the day.

We want everyone to register prior to the day to go into the draw for prizes such a signed Netball Diamonds shirt, as well as master classes to your club or school from some of Canberra’s leading female teams.

Keep up to date with Sport for Women Day on Facebook and Twitter.
