Spring cleaning time - best place to take donations ??

I’ve started my spring cleaning and have alot of stuff that I would like to attempt to donate before I chuck it all out.

I have a ton of magazines, does anyone know medical centers or dentists etc who like to receive magazines for their waiting rooms ?

Secondly I’d rather not donate old clothes to charity dumping bins. Does anywhere take clothes to donate to the needy anymore or do they only stock up their shops with our donations ??

Depending on what clothing you have to offer, you may want to consider Working Wonders. They provide clothing for women of all ages who are getting back into the work force. The drop off location near me is in City West at the Womens Info Centre on London Circuit, but they also have a place in Woden and in Downer. http://www.workingwonders.org.au/news/

That’s a great idea! Might donate to them myself.

imo take them to Vinnies (as per post #1) and see if they want your stuff. Don’t be offended though if they don’t take things, just pop them in the rag bin.

The maternity clinic at TCH accepts magazines gratefully (at least, they did 9 months or so ago) – and from experience I can say that the waiting room there certainly needs new magazines!

I use Freecycle for this sort of thing. Then I know the recipient really wants it and I don’t waste a middle-person’s effort. If you’ve already decided that you are not going to take money for your items, then it’s a fairly straightforward process.

I take clothes and other appropriate items directly to St Vincents. In Belconnen you can literally hand them straight to a volunteer at the rear roller door – they really appreciate the extra effort to bypass the bins. I’ll be headed there myself on Saturday morning.
