ACT Policing arrested four men after a knife incident in Fyshwick early this morning (Sunday, April 14).

Around 3am, General Duties police had been attending a dispute at the Gentlemen’s Club in Gladstone St, Fyshwick when they received an urgent report of an altercation a short distance away in the same street.

They reached the second location almost immediately to find four men running from the scene and a fifth man with a single puncture wound to his torso.

Police officers pursued the fleeing group on foot and apprehended them near 104 Gladstone Street. Other police units attended in support, and a section of Gladstone Street was cordoned off while the area was searched. The injured man, a 50-year-old from Chapman, was conveyed to hospital in a stable condition.

Two knives found discarded in nearby garden beds will be forensically examined.

All four men taken into custody were subjected to a forensic procedure. One of the men, a 23-year-old from Holt, had been sought on a First Instance Warrant over an unrelated matter and will be held in custody to face the ACT Magistrates Court tomorrow. The other three men – two aged 26, and a third aged 52 – will be released without charge.

However, charges are possible pending the outcome of forensic results.

Police are urging any witnesses who may be able to assist with the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the website at act.crimestoppers.com.au.

It doesn’t say anything about the exchange of intelligence between NSW Police and ACT Police. First Instance warrants are issued by the Courts, not the police, if the ACT warrant was not placed onto the relevant NSW systems theres no way NSW Police or Corrective Services could have known old mate was wanted in the ACT. Perhaps the warrant was on NSW systems and for any number of reasons the connection wasn’t made – we don’t know the facts so all we have is opinion. In any event plenty of crooks have been locked up as a result of cooperation between NSW and ACT Police and at the end of the day this bloke got binned too. Happy days.

My comment, while somewhat sarcastic, was to point out that there had been a failure to identify that Darcy was wanted in the ACT while he was incarcerated in Wellington,NSW.It appears that there needs to be better information sharing and checking between the various states and territories to avoid this type of scenario recurring.

A new oxymoron – “hip hop artist”.

How can someone be arrested and imprisoned and released in NSW, with warrants outstanding in the ACT, and no-one notices???? And then you wonder why people keep offending.

Yep, it’s *everyone’s* fault but the twat who ‘keeps offending’, isn’t it?! He should use that as his excuse: ‘But judge, they accidentally released me! After that, of course i HAD to stab someone!’ Hahaha!

BTW, try-hard hip hop artist getting in trouble with the law? Anyone seen Trailer park boys? Hahaha! 🙂

I’ll take your argument to its logical conclusion, and suggest we dismantle the whole expesnive criminal justice system and just wait for people to stop offending of their own accord. Because that’s what you’re implying.

He has, in fact, almost used the excuse you suggest – saying he had moved to Canberra to start a new life. But then appears to continue his old life. Go figure.

Police Media have a RiotAct presence?

Speaking of assumptions, how do you know this was a FIW? And when they are issued them, who are they provided to for actioning? Oh yeah, the police. And in an island jurisdiction, if ACT police aren’t routinely registering their’s with NSW police, then there is a much bigger problem.

The fact we do know is that a suspect/defendant has been roaming the streets when he shouldn’t have been. Whether this was the fault of ACT police, NSW police, ACT or NSW courts, or NSW corrections isn;’t really the point. It’s a systemic failure (and not the first of its kind, as anyone with inside knowledge would know) and should be completely impossible in the days of fingerprints, computers and DNA.

Whether or not it says anything about exchange of intelligence, it says a lot about the competence of the police, courts and corrections. “It’s alright, we got him three years later” means little to all the other victims he may have had in the intervening period. It will also mean little to the victims of the original offences. It also screws up the chances of conviction, if it relies on any witnesses’ evidence, as so much time has passed. ACT courts are slow enough without adding this kind of stuff-up on top.

It also means he thought he’d got away with it for years, which is hardly a good thing, and may have encouraged him to keep offending.

Well, if he got away with it for years, it seems “we” don’t want him to stop. That’s gonna be his perspective.

It has now been reported that ACT Policing had been searching for William Warren Darcy,23,who was one of the four people involved in the stabbing, for almost four years on a series of charges, including burglary, common assault, property damage, and possessing a knife.

Unknown to local authorities,Darcy was living in Dubbo and spent a stint behind bars at the Wellington jail in NSW.

What does this say about intelligence between NSW and ACT Police? Massive fail!

Very ungentlemanly behaviour resorting to violence as there are more than enough lap dancers at the CMC to keep them entertained!

But the Canberra Missionary Church is in Macquarie…

Indeed and they’ll need to return there for self-flagellation and penance after their disgusting behaviour in that den of iniquity!
