Stanhope cracks down on dogs

Our Brave Leader has taken some time off from closing schools and annoying the Howard Government to push out a media release warning that rangers are going to be cracking down on dogs allowed off their leads in “Canberra Nature Park”.

Mr Stanhope does acknowledge that just banning dogs wouldn’t be a good idea:

“Dogs, as companion animals have considerable social value in our community.”

Actually their map is not so bad once you get into it. It is a bit lunky – it begins with Canberra the size of a postage stamp and you have to zoom randomly to find something you recognise, and navigate from there. But once you get to suburb level it is ok. Pity you can’t type in a suburb (or even an area), but nevermind. It seems there are off lead areas all over the place – who knew!

I believe that all ACT Forests are places where you can take a dog off lead for exercise. I do and have stopped and chatted to rangers without a problem. Pity this is not advertised.

Dogs are out in force after work too.
The website they point to is painful – would be impossible without broadband. I have been looking for a list of off lead dog exercise areas forever, and all this has is an impossible map and the following useful advice – I love how the answer has no relationship to the questions:

“Where can I exercise my dog off-leash in public?
Dog Exercise Areas – are areas where dogs in the control of their keepers or carers may be exercised off-leash.

It is important that even while off-leash, dogs are under the control of the owner at all times. This is especially important as dog exercise areas are not limited for use of dogs and their owners, being used by other members of the public for re recreational purposes.”

perhaps she can try the latest in housing for under privillaged dogs… RSPCA

“Deb Foskey better stay inside for awhile.”

That’s gold, Bonfire!

Maybe Housing ACT can supply her with a lead?

Deb Foskey better stay inside for awhile.

Can all children under the age of 20 be put on leads when out in public too?
