2CC is very excited and wants you to know they’ve engaged the services of Jon Stanhope and Kate Carnell to talk about ACT politics.

Former Chief Ministers Jon Stanhope and Kate Carnell have new jobs. From next week they will commence work with 2CC as Political Commentators.

Whilst the ACT election is still seven months away, the electioneering and mud slinging is well underway in the Assembly. Stanhope and Carnell will join 2CC to discuss the issues, tactics and policies throughout the election campaign. They will also raise their own thoughts and ideas about Canberra.

2CC Program Director Peter Davidson says the two big-name signings will create discussion about our great city and where it’s headed.

The email which sent out the media release included this reminder:

Remember that Pauline Hanson is becomes a talkback radio host tomorrow and Thursday between 3-6pm.

I listen to and watch the ABC and have never, and will most likely never, vote Green or Labor. I am an out and proud liberal (notice the small l).

Unfortunatley, liberal is too often used as a term of derision in the ‘liberal’ party.

You do realise that small ‘l’ liberal and capital ‘L’ Liberal are on different ends of the political spectrum don’t you? Perhaps not.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/liberal – a. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

No Liberal politician springs to mind when I read that definition, which explains why they use ‘liberal’ as a term of derision. If you are a ‘liberal’ and you’ve rejected Labor and the Greens then you are pretty much out of options on election day unless you can find an independent to your liking.

rekkun we’re all pretty much out of options amid this talentless crop of twats that pass for politicians at the moment, but that’s another story…

A little OT, but I believe I am afforded the right of reply.

Having both undergrad and postgrad degrees in politcal science, I think I’m pretty well qualified to know the difference between a liberal and a Liberal in the Australian context. Not too sure I mentioned politicians in my comment, politicians are very much in the minority, numerically, in a political party. It is the American influence (GOP) from which Conservatives within the Liberal Party learn their dislike of liberals. There are many liberals in the Liberal Party, the most senior of whom are Turnbull and Pyne. They are termed moderates. Hockey could be lumped in as a moderates however Hockey generally does whatever is best for Hockey (even moreso than the others).

In closing, the largest misunderstanding regarding the Australian electoral system is that we have compulsary voting; we do not. It is however compulsary to have your name marked off the roll (via any number of avenues open to you) as having attended a polling place.

Very telling that both of them bypassed the 666 Socialist Left collective in favour of the station where the influential announcers have shifts.

I guess Stanhope and Carnell figured that they should be talking to the people that matter in this town who will decide the outcome of the election rather than bashing their heads against the wall wasting their time with the Labor/Greens true believers who listen to the ABC.

I think most vote labor in this town to ease their consciences about being totally the other way in their habits.

Don’t kid yourself about this, politicians (retired or otherwise) like a verbal stoush. And if they can get paid for it all the better for them.

c_c says #14 – “Really can’t tell if this is him being sent to serve the party as a spin doctor,”
I do not think so.
“…or if it’s just him in search of the limelight…”
Sounds more likely to me.
“…in which case it could be a thorn in Labor’s side. Wouldn’t Stanhope and his record hold them back, and any reminders of his time be unwelcome?”
Agree c_c – I think an asset for the Libs will be the Stanhopian masterworks that can be reprised when the time is ripe – things like desalination on the coast and pumping drinking water up the hill to Canberra – then the sewage to drinking water master-plan – I think this is even yet not dead. The stunning inability to oversee the pouring of concrete – and not just once either. The years of wrangles over buying a hospital – what did that cost and where is it all now. Earlier on there was that venture called Rhodium – just to show the colossal business skills in a jumped up city council.

Yeah – to have JS on radio must be the free-kick of the week for Zed.

all this fuss over a local council… 🙂

I wonder whether Kate Carnell will be behind the mike on 13 July 2012 … perhaps (unlikely) she won’t need to be reminded to express some sorrow, on the 15th anniversary of the Canberra Hospital demolition, for her little namesake who would have been turning 27 this year … or will she toss off a comment about “emotional baggage”?

Don’t worry, Stanhope won’t let her forget… he certainly didn’t let the electorate forget right up to election day.

And so he should have. Carnell screwed up but was never held accountable for it.

Not sure what Labor will think of this. From what I gather, Stanhope was something of a loaner, which isn’t out of the ordinary for a Labor leader (Whitlam, Rudd). Really can’t tell if this is him being sent to serve the party as a spin doctor, or if it’s just him in search of the limelight in which case it could be a thorn in Labor’s side. Wouldn’t Stanhope and his record hold them back, and any reminders of his time be unwelcome?

So, Jon Stanhopeless has decided to give us the benefit of his wondrous knowledge, eh?
Where has he been before that and why did he suddenly depart office so mysteriously.
Sorry if this is old news but I’ve been away.

Michael Moore must be very sad that he has been bumped as the best ex pollie to ask about ACT politics!

SnapperJack you need to get out a little more – if you had seen a real socialist left collective you wouldn’t be bandying that term around with gay abandon in the vicinity of the old fogies that evidently listen to 666 as per the ratings (thanks Snarky).

Really?

Is becomes? Is this meant to allude to how unbecoming her stint on air will no doubt be?

Another excellent reason for avoiding them. At least Kate Carnell.

“is becomes”?

This should give 2CC some cred. I’m curious to see how Pauline Hanson goes tomorrow

2cc may have woken from its 15 year slumber, smart decsion and the hanson thing also a good play, i am a big fan of anything after on that station after 9am.
