August 25th:

* The Stateline team wondered what it would be like for Vietnam veterans the week after all the commemorations.
For many of the men, after the fanfare dies down, they are left alone with memories that they can only share with each other.
One group meets every week in Queanbeyan for coffee, cake and friendship… and we were invited to join them.

* The proposed site for a new dragway in the Majura Valley has the local residents fearing that they will be driven out – almost literally. They also argue that the government should not spend $8m on the project. Why not? says Geoff Develin – good for the economy and plenty of money has been spent on bicycle trails and other “boutique” pursuits.

* No snow – but still the ACT is home to the fastest growing sled dog competition.

Plus – a new chief conductor for the Canberra Symphony Orchestra – and some fairies at the bottom of the Botanical Gardens.

TONIGHT AT 7.30. Repeated at Noon on Saturday.

At least the land will look nice in the sales brochures.

re School Oval reno, at least two schools that are meant to be closing and flogged off are having their ovals done – Isabella Plains and Gilmore.
Terubo, now we’re getting somewhere!

Interesting distinction, miz. How about “vile’un”?

OK then, ‘Villein’.

Aw, look, I think it’s just the embarrassed smile of a harmless little chap who’s out of his depth…

Barr’s smile is up there with Costello’s. ‘One may smile and smile, and be a villain’. (Hamlet)

Yes – the latest is that due tro their insane decision not to water school ovals at all during the drought they are now spending 500,000.00 on returfing for 8 schools. Why cuoldn’t they just water them enough to keep them alive? Not watering can’t have saved them half a million dollars.

I think the smiley minister summed it up qite nicely:

ANDREW BARR: well there’s a variety of capital works programs we run — for example the ongoing maintenance and upgrade of schools ..just because a group may not represent the majority of citizens it doesn’t mean they have no rights at all to argue a case for particular facilities. Not everyone uses Canberra Stadium, not everyone uses a whole variety of other capital works that A.C.T. governments have funded in years past.

Boutique pursuits?

I went for a ride today at Majura Pines and encountered stacks of other cyclists – it didn’t seem that boutique to me.
