Stateline Takes on Disability Services

Stateline on Friday started out with a piece on the concerns of families about disability services in the ACT.

They follow with a rebuttal of the criticisms by the Minister responsible, John Hargreaves.

I have to say the current system, as described, would seem to favour those who are skilled at gaming the system, or have access to inside advice.

Dare we ask why you were loitering in the gallery?

You have to wonder why this bloke is in Cabinet. In the Stateline interview, he says:
“We also have 1,000 people in this town who access ACT Disability services – that is 1 in every 32 people in this town”

– which would make the population of Canberra 32,000. Now, the frightening thing is that, when you watch the interview, this doesn’t appear to be an off-the-cuff remark. Hargreaves actually appears to have thought about it – or been given it by someone else equally brainless. Hargreaves is notorious in Labor Party circles for not being able to count, but his chief of staff, failed Assembly candidate Andrew Barr, is just as infamous for his flimsy grasp of maths.

And just to show I’m even-handed, people in the Assembly public gallery today were perplexed as to why the Government backbench was laughing their heads off while someone else was speaking. It turned out they were laughing at the other Moron for Brindabella Steve Pratt – who was meticulously licking a self-sealing ExpressPost envelope while sitting in the chamber.
