Status of Bicycle Cage at Kippax?

Does anyone know what is happening with the bike cage that was planned to be built at Kippax?

Looking at the ACT Govt’s Bike-and-Ride map, I noticed that Kippax was supposed to be getting a bike cage right about now i.e. “Late 2012”:

Nobody was available at the Bike-and-Ride office today to tell me what the status of the bike cage was, which makes sense seeing as though it is Sunday today and outside of regular business hours!

Thanks, anyone.

It appears that there isn’t really a system by which people can get access to the cages.

From http://transport.act.gov.au/bike_and_ride.html :

Access to these secure, weatherproof bike storage cages is enabled to MyWay card holders upon application. Please call MyWay on 13 17 10 to request access.

Did you actually read the thread? the OP had quite some difficulty and it took weeks.

Who’s bright idea was it to build them and why is a cage needed for in the first place .

You can take the one from Mawson, no one is ever using it. I mean-EVER!!!!

Not surprised. Woden is so close where you can catch direct buses.

BTW the park and ride is actually at the tennis club with the stops on Southern Cross Drive, right near where they have done a good job installing lights to make it safer. Pity they are now putting bus stops right at the bottom of the hill thus making it dangerous for all including the park and riders who will no doubt cross the road at the stops (which is where the paths lead them) rather than the underpass 20m futher along or the lights 20m futher again.

Or do the better thing and put the stops in Moyes Crescent, which is afterall where the cars using the park and ride will park.

Geez… with the increased parking costs everywhere and ample bike paths around the place I would have expected better. Or are there bike thieves galore in Mawson, thus validating the lack of patronage in “the cage”? *Checks the ACT crime stats site*… nope. Just laziness prevailing 😛

well actually….

… it may be ready January / February.

Fantastic, thanks… I guess I should have looked over the website more before posting.

Cue all the West Belconnen bogans on their spiky anti-Magpie helmets riding into Kippax to bus everywhere early 2013, myself included! 🙂

Believe it or not, construction work has commenced at this site for the Bike and Ride location and associated new bus stops. The Park and Ride webpage mentions that the Kippax P&R is due for completion in 2013, so it may be ready January / February.
