Stay away from the water

johnboy 3 December 2010 3

While the BOM reckons fire danger is currently “low to moderate” the ESA is asking you to stay away from water:

3:05pm Friday 3 December 2010 – Update six – ACTSES urges everyone to stay away from waterways The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) has issued an urgent safety message to the community to stay away all from waterways, drains and any other build ups of water across the Territory.

The current wet weather in the ACT has created increased danger for the community.

The ACTSES urges everyone to avoid any large build up of water as a safety precaution.

To date the ACTSES has received 361 calls for help since 2pm yesterday with around 70 still outstanding.

For ACTSES storm and flood assistance call 132 500.

The Queanbeyan sewage works have overflowed into the molonglo river which flows into Lake Burley Griffin, I would be staying away from those locations for a few weeks at least.

Worth noting that where as overflow from Lower Molonglo is semi-treated and the overflow is by design, the current flow from the Queanbeyan treatment plant is a structural failure. They’ve had earth movers trying to build a temporary levy to stop the stuff.
Until they fix it, that’s completely untreated sewerage going into the Lake.

Correct
