Steve Pratt has put out a media release on the growing monkey bike menace in the suburbs of Canberra.

Steve seems more concerned that authority might be being flouted than the safety considerations.

“My concern is that these riders are openly flouting the law by riding where they are riding and not wearing helmets, these people clearly do not fear being caught and this is half the problem.”

The latter Poll Bludger is a fairly prominent psephologist so he’s probably just protecting his “brand” – with perhaps a little dash of self-promotion, too.

Dunno if he smokes weed, however … then he’d be known as Poll Pot.

Well put LG. You beat me to it

I get the impression he may be self promoting; In any case I’m not going to click on the link to find out what his caper is.

As noone knows you, it is unlikely anyone cares. And obviously there is more than one pollbludger. I’m sure there are other “LGs” around, but I don’t feel the need to let everyone know I’m a different one. But it’s nice you have a healthy ego.

I happened to come across this thread while doing a vanity search on Google. Unless I have a sleepwalking problem I am unaware of, I am not responsible for the above comment credited to “pollbludger”. Please allow me to set the record straight by stating that I have no opinion one way or the other on non-enforcement of Canberra bike helmet regulations.

Haven’t seen Kenny in a few years; I think he has moved on and is living it up on a island resort he bought with Agro and Ozzy Ostrich.

How does Kenny get paid? Watering of his eucalytus tree? Fresh gum leaves? A protective guard from the Japanese gawping tourists?

well it’s senior constable kenny koala hence the 2 stripes on his shoulders but i’m prettu sure he was in the trees watching and sleeping on the job.

Do the AFP use Constable Kenny Koala to apprehend monkey bike offenders? 😉

yes a very good result and detterent i’ve been constantly woken up by bikies in Ngunnawal going up and down the hills. A good job done by the AFP!!

A blow to the head with a large blunt instrument should do the trick. Actually, that treatment would probably work well on Pratt as well!

Pratt has completely lost the plot on law and order issues –

The police minister put out a media release

last month that said 36 people had been cautioned or charged this year in relation to illegally riding trail bikes in northern Belconnen.

“The parkland and pathways of north Belconnen have been the subject of specific targeting by police patrols over the last 12 months. As a result, 36 offenders have been charged or cautioned. Four of those have been in the last two weeks and ten in July.”

Mr Hargreaves said this was a great result and credited local residents for providing police with information.

“I thank local residents for their ongoing contact and. I encourage all Canberrans with information on illegal activities to call Crime Stoppers,” he said.

if when caught the miscreants were given a thrashing, instead of a fine and a good talking to i suspect monkey bike madness would subside.

that and setting the bikes on fire at the poiint of interception.
