Steve Whan gets into NSW cabinet - but what as?

CT today has great delight in explaining how the convoluted machinations of the ALP’s many and varied factions led to the local Monaro MLA Steve Whan getting entre into the NSW cabinet, after apparently some years on the outer, and there without the Premier’s blessing to boot.

Amid wondering exactly what sort of government is that party running, I reread the article three times to try to find what portfolio he had received, thinking that’s kind of an important oversight on the journo’s behalf…

But according to an ALP insider I talked with, that will come tomorrow. Apparently the ALP decides the people first, then figures out the portfolios. Nice if the CT journos had thought to mention this kind of important fact.

So no such thing as the best person for the job – more the best job for the person. Any wonder NSW is on the ropes?

[ED – I hear he’s getting Emergency Services.]

At least as emergency services minister people will know who they’re calling when they ring to report the NSW government died (or should have) about 6 years ago.

Yeah, I had a chuckle at the “boy from the bush” thing. He’s from Canberra. But he has been cultivating a somewhat Moleskinned image since getting Eden Monaro.

I think New South Wales is an excellent example of modern, innovative democracy: instead of all these wasteful elections, you just give everyone a turn! They’re due for a new Premier soon, I can feel it! Who will get a go next? Bet it’s a white Anglo-Celtic Protestant male.

Steve Whan, son of Bob(sob),was hailed as the “boy from the bush” on WIN news.Steve grew up in Lyons(olympus way) attended act schools and CCAE(B ARTS)before becoming a career lackey for labor party luminaries such as John Brown. The boy from the bush description must come from his relocation to queanbeyhole,or the plant they found him under

He’s gotten emergency services and small business.

As to Steve Whan and his mystery portfolio, I suggest he get something simple and that he can do with his hands.

Playdough?

Captain Trips for everybody!
Or a war, yes…

Yup, I think that Canberra may have already passed its ideal size. Unfortunately the worlds economies seem to only function on the assumption the production will always increase, and the easiest way for that to happen in for population to increase. That or a good war.

Every time Jon Stanhope starts talking about the importance of increasing Canberra’s population, I think of NSW – especially Sydney. The bigger it grows, the less it seems to actually function.

Not a shining example.
