After lengthy investigations, ACT Policing has recovered most of the tablet computers stolen from the Red Hill Primary School around nine weeks ago.

Police were called to the school after a burglary was reported at the premises on April 7 this year and 43 new Apple iPads stolen from an office.

Investigations and enquiries into the burglary and theft remained ongoing, culminating in police attending a Queanbeyan residence yesterday (Tuesday, June 17) and questioning a 37-year-old man.

Police recovered 32 of the stolen iPads from the Queanbeyan residence and is making further enquiries as to recovering the others.

The alleged offender will be summonsed to appear in court on a date to be fixed.

Other than the concept of ACT IT knowing and being able to do these things, maybe that’s how they were found.

shared services know how to do it. of course, it helps if they know about the equipment arriving at the school. MDM is deployed across networks.

.

Ooops Thanks.

I would have thought as standard practice, the school would have locked all these iPads to make them pretty much useless to any one who would be silly enough to buy them on the cheep. Or even have the “find me” function activated.

Guided access mode is what you’re thinking of, and it’s easy enough to get around if you know what you’re doing. There’s a way around just about all of the security in i-devices if you know how.

Perhaps you could recommend software that protects the ipads from being overwritten in recovery? AFAIK it doesn’t exist.

Depends on just how new they were. Donning my ‘internet detective’ hat, it sounds like someone knew exactly where to find them in the school. If it was in fact some type of inside job, chances are that they may have been brand new, still in the box and never activated.
