Not quite flame of the week. A bit on the short side.

The Winters had completely escaped my mind but after a bit of searching I imagine it’s related to allegedly ramming a stolen car into a passing motorist and leaving that motorist to die in the burning wreckage.

Which I think we can all agree is a class act only matched by that email.

Took me a while to translate, but it appears this little boy doesn’t like people writing about his brother breaking the law. Dylan, keep you and your family out of the legal system, and nobody will need to talk about you. 🙂

I agree oldaq I took in a young bloke of junkie parents when he was 16, not formally and didn’t get paid to do it, he was a school friend of my son’s. I had rules and I had boundaries and told them to him up front and gave him a choice abide by them or don’t come in to my home your choice. We exposed him to what a family and extended family is, fed him good food regulalry and schooled him. He has turned out to be a young man I am proud of and he told me the other day how much we have changed his life and he can see now what a scum bag he could have been if he had never had the opportunities and exposure to a different life. He is now 25 and is a functioning memebr of society. He sees his parents for what they are I was alwasy careful never to run them down to him but asked him to look at them with eyes open. So yes there is hope if someone takes the time and invests some love and care, not for all of them but even one is a win for society. It takes a village to raise a child and we haev forgotten how to be villagers

Laughing at criminal under-bogans is better (for them) than the obvious alternative.

But look, I was classist before that kid pulled me up on it. It’s really easy to do. Your peers do it. It’s normal. I can understand the underlying social issues that lead to you behaving this way… But you’re still accountable for your actions. And you should know that your actions don’t prevent the crime or ignorance that you detest, they just contribute to a divided society.

This was a great post. Thanks for writing this. As I type here in my flannelet shirt, drinking a beer and reflecting on my past, I get it. I spent most of my formative life living in the housing commission parts of Charnwood, attended “Charnie high” from 7-10 and now live in the upper heights of Bruce in absolute luxury. Never underestimate the effect one brief encounter can make on an individual…

Thanks for the replies. I’m glad to’ve started a debate. I think this is an important topic. So this is to anyone who’s gripping to their views that this kid deserves your scorn…

It’s true that the “welfare class” aren’t as broadly discriminated against as some minorities. But they ARE discriminated against. By us. By me. By you. It’s such an automatic reaction that you don’t even notice you’re doing it. You look at them differently. You look at them with some mixture of scorn, fear, snap judgement and just plain hatred. You don’t even see them, the person. You see an icon. You see in one angry girl every pregnant teen; in one drawn toothless bloke every drug-fucked criminal; in one bearded bikie every racist womaniser. They’re loud, they’re ignorant, and they’re everything you’re not, because you’re a GOOD person. Because you got to where you are through EFFORT and CLEVERNESS; the things that they obviously lack. You don’t think these things consciously, because they’re so ingrained. But they’re all contained in that look. The look which you don’t know you’re giving but which that low-pantsed boy sees and feels every day of his life.

I was walking through the bus interchange one day and a mean looking ‘bogan’ kid said to me “why’d you look at me like that!?”. A pretty standard fight-starting line. But I saw something other than riling in his eyes. I saw actual proper hurt. I HAD glanced at him. I didn’t mean to give a harsh look. But in hindsight, judgemental thoughts probably had popped into my head. So when he looked at me and his face showed hurt and frustration mixed in with the anger, I felt suddenly ashamed.
He gets that look every day, from everyone with nice shoes and a cardboard coffee. It wears away at him, because he’s no dummy and he knows what they’re all thinking. He knows everyone thinks he’s a stupid useless no-hoper. And he can’t see any way to stop their scorn, or to prove them wrong. Because it’s not just him. He sees people look at his mum that way too, and his brother and sister, and his grandpa, and his friends, and his friend’s dad, and even his uncle’s f**king dog gets stares and tut-tuts! And that s**t wears away at a person. Same opportunities as us? Maybe in theory, but culture can have more influence than opportunity. And I challenge anyone here to look me in the eye and say “If I’d been born into his family, I’d be fine.”

And people who accuse me of defending his actions, take note. There’s a vast difference between a reason and an excuse. Culture can be a reason (or contributing factor) for a person’s actions. But it’s not an excuse. Because it doesn’t stop individuals from being accountable for their actions.

But look, I was classist before that kid pulled me up on it. It’s really easy to do. Your peers do it. It’s normal. Bugger. I thought your first post was actually a brilliant piece of irony and I quite enjoyed it. Wee constructed. But you were serious? Please tell me this is just another deliberate wind-up.

It depends on the person, it does have some part but not the totality of who they become. It can quite easily go the other way too. One of my cousins, coming from a very good family. Well off financially, not home of violence, great educational opportunities… What did he do with it? Nothing. He quite literally became a bum. A drifter moving from city to city, writing rubber cheques to supermarkets, sitting on the corner in busy cities with a cardboard sign. Drinking, gambling and constantly lying at every opportunity.

He stole money and booze from his and my 90 year old grandfather. He stole DVDs from libraries. He would commonly stay in the Gatwick Hotel in Melbourne (probably one of the worst places in Australia).

Having opportunities stemming from the social environment in which they grew up does not necessarily mean that they’re tapped for success in life. Just as people growing up in bad environments are not doomed to become drug addicts, drunks or just pests to society. A lot of a person’s destiny is what they make of it not what excuses they can come up with on why they couldn’t make anything of themselves.

Yep.

Thank you oldaq. That was very enlightening and I for one now feel ashamed that we live such a dreadful society, one where the government tattoos the foreheads of these unfortunates at birth so that their unfortunate upbringing is obvious at a glance.

Like I’m sure many other people, I have a dream where these people weren’t indelibly branded and instead, with a simple neatening up of their clothing and general appearance, and with ceasing to drop the “F” and “C” words every few seconds, they could blend in with our civilised society. Perhaps in such a utopian world they wouldn’t feel so ashamed when people look at them.

Yes I know it is a fanciful dream.

You sir, are a f*cking idiot.

I can only speak for myself – but I think you’re making a crazy, stupid assumption and telling people what they think, rather than actually bothering to read them.

No one has bagged them for being on welfare. No one has bagged them their societal standing.

They’re bagging them because of their criminal behaviour, because of their sense of entitlement, because of their laziness to make something better of themselves (which many of US from the lower class fight to do) and because of the stupidity of making public threats and admission of crime.

But please, do reply and attempt your pathetic, low-rate attempt at psycho analysis and tell me what I really think.

No, I don’t think we will. There’s absolutely no point.

Sociological sermons noted, but I might suggest that one day you will chastise yourself for being suspicious of an individual just before they whack you from behind.

You are really evolving, as a decent human being – and giving the rest of us a leg up too.

*Thank you* for taking the time to write that, it was a compelling reminder of one basic fact… but for the grace of whatever significant being pleases you, there goes any of us.

Witnessing such anguished ignorance and rage ought not to make us feel superior… it ought to make us feel like failures.

Seriously – how dare we patronize and sneer at this child; what makes us think doing so is going to anything constructive?

Way to perpetuate the cycle, Rioters…

Somehow they have managed to outwit autocorrect…

Reading the various Winters’ facebook pages makes for sad reading really.

How do people continually make their own lives so crappy through self-destructive behaviour, without ever thinking things could be better if they didn’t do the same crap over and over?

We, as a society, have set up a mechanism to help people in similar socio-economic circumstances. Clearly, for some, all the education, housing, social security, family assistance and legal assistance and sympathetic court devisions provided are simply not working. I don’t offer a better solution, but I do understand why so many of us want to lash out at Mr Wynters and his ilk. We have a right to be angry. Mr Wynters is attempting to defend a man who stole a car, rammed a member of the public and ran off to leave the injured in a burning wreck. Surely, a few jibes from the ivory tower pales into insignificance compared to the actions of Josh Wynters and judging by the Facebook page, most of his associates.

Dylan I like what you’ve done with your facebook page!

Comic_and_Gamer_Nerd10:31 am 08 Jun 13

Oh you guys are talking about the younger brothers page. I did not see that before it became private. Although there is one pic and comments available to see with him saying hideous stuff to his mother and his mother claiming a older girls is having sex with him. Gross.

The mothers page is open and she claims there is some government conspiracy against her.

I was talking about the older brothers page in my earlier post. No time for screens right now but if its still open later I will get some. It’s pretty funny stuff.

What a bunch of scumbags.

Also, cycling through friends making comments, a bunch appear to have been associated with Michael steep. (Bogans that tried to lock down Woden interchange)

I think “caste” is a more accurate term because there’s just so little interaction and they practically have their own language and culture.

Plus you can spot them on the street because they have their own costume, manner and bearing.

They aren’t bogans. Bogans are the working class. These are the under-bogans. Um, yeah I don’t know how to help them either. Caste hopping is well frowned upon.

Why don’t all you so called “intelligent learned” people assist an uneducated person to find their way to become a responsible citizen instead of lampooning them? Is it too hard for you to do that? Do you prefer to continually debase the person to retaliate? If you do you are no better than the uneducated person on the end of these tirades.

How do you propose they do that? Unfortunately, you don’t have the answers any more than the government departments already trying to help kids like these do.

As someone else mentioned, it’s actually sad rather than funny. Imagine having no dreams for the future, no ambition, no stable family, no hope. I have no doubt he’ll end up with his brother at some point when he finally hits 18.

I don’t have the answers. I doubt anyone does.

He obviously has a great relationship with his mum, and I doubt his dad’s on the scene. There are too many kids like this.

“f#ck mum you not my mum so go sak a dike and shoot up and dont pek on my famell courtnie and just f*ck you?”

What hope has he got in life? None.

Wow. These comments are shameful folks. Bogan bashing is the last widely accepted form of discrimination. Or to use the proper word, classism. And that’s what you’re doing here with your jibes at this guy’s intellect. His violent threat is horrible, sure. But his language is a product of his society. He speaks like that either due to poor education, or to fit in with his peers. Either way, his por speling is a product of his environment. He didn’t get the opportunities you did.

Look, if I said to you “Those abos are dole-bludging, lazy, alcoholic criminals”, you’d react (and rightly so). You might reply “Well yes they’re over-represented in our prisons, but you have to look at the underlying social issues to understand what is a complex situation involving generational cycles of abuse and reactions to social and political powerlessness etc etc”. Well these exact arguments can be made about the blue-collar/welfare-receiving white australian lower classes in their council flats on Northbourne and popping out babies in western sydney. And your holier-than-thou jibes only entrench the problems you see.

So put down your latte and your scorn, and back the f*** off. Naw.

You lost me when you included the word “blue collar”. I have yet to see any evidence of labour, skilled or unskilled. If this thread is ‘classist’, it is the criminal class being mocked.

And to those suggesting the email in the op is fake, I’d be very impressed with the dedication of setting up that Facebook page a year in advance…

To those who are critical of rioters lampooning the human trash you need to be reminded that it is not only their environment but significantly it’s their genetic makeup which is responsible for the monster. It’s obvious that their behaviour and attitudes are so deeply entrenched in their psyche that attempting to reprogramme them is bound to fail.

Besides i suspect most would prefer the see the wadcutter employed, after all it’s very cheap and has a 100% success rate 🙂

Seems Dylan has updated his facebook privacy. His mums page is also quite amusing.

I find that page sad rather than funny. The kid is screwed before he has a chance. The “parents” should have been sterilised at birth to break the chain.

I can’t tell whether you’re taking the piss or not. The example you used where you compared the denigration of people who historically were treated as animals, and thus given no opportunities, to white folk who were given education, housing and opportunity is stupid.

To me the essence of a bogan is the deliberately uneducated. They remain so because, in their heart of hearts, they believe society owes them something.

Which is why “work” is going to Centrelink and getting pissed off when they won’t hand over money, and when “trying to get my life back on track” is stealing a car, pranging it and leaving a flaming wreckage, victim included, in your wake.

I will stick up for minority groups – the Indigenous, the LGBTIs, the poor… those people can’t help being who they are and shouldn’t be made to feel bad about it.

This is in direct contrast to the lazy, deliberately ignorant and uneducated bogan who did have the opportunities of housing and education to change who they were, and they should be made to feel bad about their decision to sabotage and harm society rather than contribute to it.

Anyway, disappointing thread. The Rebecca Massey story today took me back to the the halcyon days of junkie bogans and their entourages using drug money to buy computers so they could carry out their dispute on the pages of the Riot Act, and other hangers on trying to appear “street” with an “I know who you are, I know more than you” attitude that most laughed at the patheticness of.

So…the supposed writer of this email is a 13 year old kid?

Do we really need to be publishing the rantings of a kid with a f***ed up home life on the Internet, to live on in perpetuity?

From my reading of the Facebook page linked elsewhere in this thread, the kid in question may be all of 13-14 years old and perhaps in the care of the ACT Office of Children Youth and Family Services (OCYFS). Perhaps people ought to tread carefully regarding what they say about a minor with no obvious parentals/guardians.

Ironically oldaq you judge the commenters here as well! as someone who grew up poor, with a single mother in Western Sydney (as you so delightfully point out in your comment) I am a university graduate and working in a senior role in the public service – in the human service field.

Naw.

If it is, this is why we need interwebs licenses.

One word ‘wadcutter’!

Too big a word and they wouldnt know what it meant and they would think that it may be a wanking term, remember that they are the lowest common denominator. Less than zero. A number so low that it can only be comprehended by the mathematically gifted and the insanely stupid (and I work with mathletes and economic savants).

They don’t need to know the word any more than they need to understand or spell ‘velocity’, ‘kinetic energy’, or ‘penetration’. They just have to experience it.

I fervently hope they experience penetration while in gaol!

I am sure they will be experiencing plenty of the latter in their future long stints in cells.

I kind of take offence at this and agree at the same time as the only confirmed graduate of Caroline Chisholm with a degree in engineering.

An Engineering Degree still being a higher probability than the complete works of Shakespeare.

I jest.

Though the reputation of that faculty for alcohol consumption?

I jest. Again.

To pillory my own degree, would you like fries with that?

The spelling, or rather the idiosyncratic version of common spellings, is not a sign of inability to spell, it is instead a deliberate method of communicating at least both of these messages:

1. I have contempt for how society expects me to behave.
2. I belong to this particular language and social group.

As such it is little different to clan or gang markings, dog scenting or stag ruttings. This person has done a particularly fine job of expressing his proud membership of a despised social clique.

I too would love to know how the victim in the other car is going?

Is is still receiving treatment for his burns and injuries?

Is he still in severe pain?

has he been able to go back to work yet? Is his family under threat of losing their home due to not being able to pay his rent?

Has his family adjusted to, or are they coping from the stress and changes inflicted upon their family?

Have you coughed up the dosh for a replacement car for him?

And why did you leave a seriously injured man to die and run off to save your own arse?

yes Dylan – how *IS* the victim going?

Do you even care?

That would require a conscience or even a brain for that matter, therefore bugger all chance of that.

Isn’t it a crime to send threats through a carriage service like e-mail? Anyways, I don’t think anyone here is scared of a couple of inbreds, no matter how stupid or violent they may be. Enjoy prison boys, if there’s any justice in this world you’ll be seeing a lot of it.

Well, if nothing else, the young Dylan has at least now had some schooling in the Streisand Effect and how that works.

Oh good grief….have you seen Dylan’s facebook page?

https://www.facebook.com/dylan.winters.52

Check out the comments that go with his profile pic. His mum, Melissa, features heavily with accusations of sluttery and pedophilia against his female friends. Dylan calms the situation with this (censorship by me):

“f**k mum you not my mum so go sak a dike and shoot up and dont pek on my famell courtnie and just f**k you”

The winningest winners in town? If you disagree then you can go sak a dike!

Does it strike anyone else as ironic that if you change the ‘T’ in their surname to ‘N’ it spells ‘WINNERS’…?

I’m not even sure that Dylan is old enough to have completed high school as of yet.

I’m sure I could train my dog to write a legible post quicker than Dylan could be trained to do so.

I bet he hasn’t mastered, “sitting on the toilet; the right way to do it,” as of yet.

I take it from all of this that the Winters don’t give a Gonski.

Dylan Winters was easily the toughest kid in year 5. Probably because he was 17 at the time.

I’ve often thought that sentencing based on educational achievement would have some benefit.

“I sentence you to two trade certificates and a bachelors degree”

Sentencing him to 6th grade would consitute cruel punishment, he’d really struggle.

This is where our taxes go, all the law enforcement and emergency services and legal shennanigans needed to deal with people like this.

Look at that email, I can’t understand it but the gist is, how dare anyone find fault with our behaviour or hold us to account? This person feels they have a right ot behave like this. There’s nothing you can do with people like this. Sometimes I wonder if the southern US states have the right idea… chain gangs and the like.

What language is that? Anyone willing to translate it in to English?

It is called Bo-Gan, a simple dialect which has no relation to Bo (A recently deceased language that was spoken in India’s Andaman Islands). It is similar to the Polish phonetic structure of spelling but that is where the similarity ends. Popular phrases include: “Howtherfukareya”, “Farkoffyamoll”, “Eyellfarkingoyakhunt”, “Whersmefarkinlongbeetchpakyakhunt” and the everpresent: “DOCScangoangetfukedcusdeyaremostlymykids””

“well kell oll you muts” is roughly translated as “I will dispose of your mixed breed hound for you good sir and good-day”.

As good a time as any to ask:

How is the victim?

Well Josh/Dylan? Do you know?

Out of curiosity is there anything that has changed recently? I’m not sure if its just me but it seems that there’s an increase of late of badly spelt emails such as the perfect example above from some relative who has googled the name of someone who has been in the news for being a d***head then gets mad over what they see here.

obviously still need a minimum for the rare clever clogs (sadly usually pedos and embezzlers).

As long as they had to do it while in jail. Although I’m not sure it would be fair on some like ‘bruther dylan’ here. It would probably take a considerable amount of time for him to write something like a dissertation, most likely longer than any actual sentence. Amusing though.

Don’t worry Dylan, there is always a place for you and your ilk in society. Scrubbing toilets and shining my shoes. That is if you survive long enough and don’t take the Mully Express before you’re 25.

We got a live one here

I also love how it took Einstein Winters here 6 months to make the connection between the original post and writing his delightful response. The synapses fire mighty slow in his neck of the woods…

One word ‘wadcutter’!

100% fabrication.

A pretty crap one too.

I can vouch it’s as sent to me.

Natural selection really needs to speed up.

I prefer compulsory sterilisation, it takes the element of chance out of the equation,

The mind boggles.

Dylan has enough brain cells to read the original story and to type an email but can’t spell “keep” “all” or “now”. I’d say those are some of the easier words most 4 year old can wrap their heads around.

Weird.

Even with a lot of thought & effort, I don’t think I could write that poorly.

Gosh, I actually felt myself getting dumber whilst reading that email.

ScienceRules10:05 am 07 Jun 13

How about a revolutionary sentencing structure that includes locking troggs like this up until they can compose a coherent sentence? Should keep them out of the way for decades…
