ACT Ambulance Service and Fire & Rescue have been on scene at a stormwater drain at Richardson adjacent to Clift Crescent under Ashley Drive following reports of a male in the stormwater drain.

ACT Fire & Rescue setup downstream recovery lines to rescue the male, however these were not needed as the patient had already been removed from the water.

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics have assessed two male children all of whom were uninjured.

ACT SES would like to remind the community to stay clear of stormwater drains and fast flowing water.

the boy was saved by a friend’s son. quite brave, involving several attempted retrievals at access points in the drain. do these rescues ever get reviewed. I believe there would be several lessons to learn and recognition of bravery warranted.

The stormwater drains in Giralang were raging torrents during the downpour. Anybody who repeatedly went into something like that to rescue a struggling child deserves the highest commendations.

My hat is off to this courageous young man.

Maybe the ACT government should invest in a duty editor to give all of these press releases a once over.

I was disappointed to find out that Clift Crescent under Ashley Drive was not an example of names such as Stoke-on-Trent or Ashton-under-Lyne.

The language errors are just too easy to pick apart. Or they would be, if my eyes weren’t burning.

Sigh.
