I don’t know if the local media have covered it, but there is a gang of portuguese cork strippers working on canberras cork plantation at present.

The herald sun cover it here.

666 ABC radio covered this on Friday arvo I think. I can’t remember which girl did the interview, but it was fairly good. She even managed to slip in a ‘strippers’ joke at the end.

The bike path around LBG runs through the cork plantation near Scrivener Dam (next to where the new Arboretum is planned). Unless you are aware of what it is it just looks to the uninitiated like a normal plantation of oaks.

It’s not a money-making venture (although that was the idea when it was originally planted).

It’s about the rise of screw tops instead of corks isn’t it? And how it’s the fault of the British?

Though what that’s got to do with pulling bark of trees in Canberra, I have not a clue.

Incidentally, did anyone know we had a cork plantation? Does it make a lot of money?

that is a terrible article in the herald sun. I’ve read it three times and still really have no idea what it is trying to say.

thats ok, they’ll find your comment just as well, good thinking

You’d get even more Google hits if you said “Latino strippers at work”

that was entriley an accident on my part. i apologise for the salacious title, which i realise only in retrospect.

yeah but think about the great google searches we’re going to get from the title

There was a story and photo in today’s CT
