The Economic Development Directorate has confirmed there is asbestos up on Mount Stromlo and they’re working on cleaning it up:
Air, soil and water testing has been conducted and the ACT Government is awaiting the results of these tests. The small amount of material discovered on the trail has been confirmed as asbestos.
All visual fragments of the asbestos containing material have been removed by a licensed asbestos removalist.
The section of the trail between ‘Red Rock’ and ‘Tall Trees’ remains closed and barricaded and will likely remain closed until mid-next week. Members of the public are urged to respect the barricade and not attempt entry into the closed section of the trail.
The trail will not re-open until it has been professionally certified as being clear of any ACM.
The remainder of Stromlo Forest Park (over 60 kilometres of trails) remains open for business and is safe for public use.
