ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to property damage at a development site in Stromlo over the weekend.

Police attended the development site on Cotter Road, Stromlo around 7.30am today (Monday, July 11), where a number of pieces of machinery and a portable toilet had been damaged. A small amount of property was also stolen from the site.

It is believed the damage occurred between 5pm Friday (July 8) and 5.30am today, where an unknown number of offenders forced entry into the secure development site.

The estimated value of the items stolen and damaged is $35,000.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour around the Stromlo area over the weekend to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

C’mon, give these hoodlums a break! Maybe they were overcome by toxic fumes from the asbestos-contaminated soil at the site, leading them to make irrational decisions.

Or maybe they were on a mission to avenge the destruction of the much loved Deeks Forest Park to make way for hideously expensive treeless suburbs. (in which case they admittedly should have targeted ACT government buildings and defaced their toilets, and not taken their anger out on poor portaloos).

What kind of oddjob breaks into a building site and vandalises a portable toilet, of all things?

Probably find they were trying to push it over, then gave up and damaged it. I’ll put my money on opportunist drunks.

You’re probably right. But it boggles me to think that there may be people on our community who regard pushing over a portable toilet as an “opportunity”, drunk or sober. 🙂

I think you’re right, but bugger you for taking away the sinister connotations associated with this terrible incident. What will some of these rioters have left to speculate about?

If this stuff isn’t safe across the road from the police college, where is it safe?

Police college? The police college is in Barton. The AFP has a complex at Weston on Unwin Pl, yes. It sounds like it’s not the site directly across from the AFP complex as they say Stromlo, which would be the site down near Uriarra Rd.

A portable toilet was damaged? What kind of oddjob breaks into a building site and vandalises a portable toilet, of all things? We sure have some remarkably low rent hoodlums in this town.

Can you imagine the silence that would fall amongst all the crims at the pub when the perp excitedly bursts in and announces his latest evil triumph? “Guess what guys, I just vandalised a portable toilet on a building site!! How hard core is that, eh bro?”

Sheesh.

If this stuff isn’t safe across the road from the police college, where is it safe?
