Style and Design the theme for Floriade 2012

johnboy 11 May 2012 7

Andrew Barr is letting us know he’s kicked off the plantings for Floriade.

And the theme this year is Style and Design.

One can’t help wondering if it’s been chosen for commercial cross over considerations (and possibly that the flower beds are freed from having to look like anything)

And just because we can here’s our hexacopter ride over Floriade11 Courtesy of AP_OZ.

I’ve got an even better theme for him: More Flowers Less Tat-Sellers. Or put the sellers of Asian Tat in the carpark where they belong. And stick in a few thousand or so more bulbs. Please.

I loathe Floriade. It blocks off Commonwealth Park for six months of the year – two to organise it, two to have the show, and two to clean up afterwards. It needs a permanent site of its own.

Agree. It has become just like the Kingston old bus depot markets with some flowers in the backyard.

I think the majority of Canberrans would agree with you and I am one of them.
How about the “Stanhope/Mackay Epicurial Theme Park” as a permanent site? At least the traffic chaos would move from Commonwealth Avenue to the Glenloch Interchange precinct. The stall holders would have to have “designer name” status though and catering would be exclusive to The Hyatt. Arrival and departure by limo only (no buses with pensioners).

I recall mention a few years ago of the possibility of it moving out to the arboretum permanently a few years ago.

It won’t be an arboretum anymore if they do.
