The University of Canberra has let it be known that Chief Minister Gallagher has appointed two new members to the University of Canberra Council:

Sue Salthouse is Convenor of Women With Disabilities ACT, immediate past-President of Women with Disabilities Australia and runs her own consultancy company specialising in research and policy work in the disability sector.

Ms Salthouse said she was honoured to be appointed to the position.

“The University of Canberra has reached a particularly exciting stage in its life and I look forward to being a part of this,” she said.

Ms Salthouse is interested in women’s education, particularly women with disability, and believes it is important for all people with a disability to be able to access employment and make an equal contribution to society.

“The University of Canberra is a great example of equity in education in that it promotes women to positions at the highest level within the University – that’s a very important role model,” she said.
Tom Karmel is the managing director of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research, and has previously held senior Federal Government positions in areas including education, employment and labour market research.

The appointment of Tom Karmel is a clear indication that the Govt intend to pursue the UC and CIT merger.
