Boo hoo! You bludgers looking for taxpayer handouts make my blood boil. Why you wait until the Libs get in power and then we’ll sort out all you socialists that want a cricket oval on every corner!

Why is that, Matt? I couldn’t find anything on the TAMS website stating that sport couldn’t be played on Hall Oval.

Last time we examined the situation, you needed to book the use of the oval (presmably that’s not the same arrangement for the footy?) and with that oval comes the hall. As a result of the hall, there are extra costs.

More importantly, though, the cricket pitch needs to be upgraded (the community has raised money for this) and the oval needs to be watered appropriately during summer. The government maintains the oval for the footy in winter (which is great), but the government refuses to properly maintain the larger area necessary for cricket to be played on the oval in summer.

The govt has previously stated that it won’t change it’s position because it hasn’t been lobbied by Cricket ACT. Unfortunately, a) it’s a “Catch-22”, because it’s hard to have a team without a home ground, and b) we were looking at joining the Yass competition, not the ACT comp.

It will happen one day. We’re working on it. The Pot Belly vs Wood Duck game several years ago (which we did without permission) was quite popular.

Getting a test match woyuld require a 7th test match each summer, because regardless of the fact whether Canberra would sell out a test vs say another city, they control CA and they’ll never give up a test match.

Is this really the first time the Australian cricket team has played in Canberra? That is quite odd, isn’t it?

Wish we could have a Test match some time.

Didn’t get to see it but I reckon the only thing that got launched today was a rubber dinghy.

Well, even though the government won’t let there be cricket matches at Hall Oval, despite members of the community wanting it, in memory of the recently departed Jimbo the Great we’re going to do another cricket match between the Wood Duck and the Pot Belly. Any interest?
