Summernats is on again for its 19th summer and this year’s launch promises to be Armygeddon.

The launch is on this Friday, December 2, at the Royal Military College’s parade ground.

Summernats promoter Chic Henry will be joined by the Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Peter Leahy, and the army’s new street machine Armygeddon for the launch.

“Birds in the backyard were found to make more noise than EPIC during Summernats some time ago (last year?) so the NIMBYs have nothing to whinge about.”

Ummm…comparing bird noises to the sound of car engines??? Hhhmmm..I know which one I’d prepare to listen to. Sometimes it’s not the volume, rather the sound itself that worries people.

That said…Summernats is great for Canberra. Like someone else commented, it’s once a year & if causes slight inconvenience for nearby residents…well, get over it.

The main difference is that us nimbys would rather listen to birds than droning engines. that’s why we moved to the leafy green suburbs near the hill.
That said, summernats is fine in Hackett – you can’t hear it at all.
You get a few more pushy hoons down Antill st, and Dickson Woolies grog shop is a no go zone – although they do get an armed guard these days to keep things under control.

Jey, My house backs on to Northbourne (near Barton hwy). If you’re in the back yard you can hear it, but it’s pretty dull and can be ignored. Inside you can hardly hear anything. A bit of soft background music and your fine.

As for cars hooning up Northbourne there is less then normal. Probably because of the police presence close to EPIC.

All in all it doesn’t bother me or inconvenience me. Except for the extra traffic but hey it’s once a year so I can deal with that.

I’m looking forward to going. Seems like a Canberra thing to do and I’ve been here long enough.

Anyone live/d in Hackett and experience Summernats?
I used to live on Northbourne Ave in Braddon and that was pretty bad.
What’s Hackett like during the ‘car festival’?

Us monkeys are busy enough as it is… eating bananas, throwing poo etc 🙂

*sighs*

Oh well, I suppose it was only a matter of time till Summernats caught up with the dash for cash crowd…
