Simon Corbell is letting us know that a report on air quality at the 2010 Summernats has come back with a big green tick.

“I am pleased to see that data on air quality taken during the 2010 Summernats event and the following weekend showed, on both occasions, the quality of the air was acceptable and well within the National Environment Protection Measure (NEPM) guideline for ambient air quality.”

The testing was commissioned by the Environment Protection Authority to determine if concentrations of atmospheric particulate matter measuring less than 10 micrograms (?g) in diameter (PM10) of the NEPM 50 ?g m-3 over a 24‑hour period guideline.

The air quality was acceptable on both weekends, and while the PM10 concentrations were higher on the weekend of Summernats, the results were within national guidelines and should allay concerns about air quality for those residents who live near Exhibition Park, where the event is held.

The full report is online.

So people are still trying to get rid of the Summernats….
First they go for noise pollution… that came in within acceptable limits.
Then they try for air pollution… that has come in within acceptable limits.

It’s for 3/365 of a year.. at least they’re not subjected to a month of sneeze and stuffed eye-inducing pollen like Floriade.

“I guess you’re not a big fan of top gear then?

I love Topgear, have a turbo car and ride a fast bike, I just don’t get burnouts.

I can’t recall an episode of Topgear where tyres have been subjected to destruction by burnout. Not saying it hasn’t happened.

Compensation…

Good news. Now, how about a report on the sexual assault statistics during Summernats, and an account of what the ACT Government did after being informed that hardcore porn was being screened at the venue during Summernats (projected from a machine mounted on a convenient trolley for speedy removal. Did the ACT Government ensure that the porn was legal? Did they bother to find out?

I would consider it an abuse of machinery.

After all, why would you spend a squillion dollars on your loved one (car or bike in this case) and then do a burnout?

In the right hands a postie bike can do a burnout so why must the small penis mob need four or five hundred HP to prove they can do one?

You’re right, it serves no purpose at all. Just like driving cars really fast around a track, if they don’t need to get anywhere cars shouldn’t be driven. Also stop having sex unless you intend to make babies, and no drinking alcohol it doesn’t serve a purpose. Oh and stop making different coloured clothing the purpose of clothes is to keep us warm so everyone should wear the same thing.

Try getting into a four or five hundred HP car, doing a burnout in front of hundreds of shouting fans, and tell me if you had ‘fun’. If not, then fair call.

Geez – clean air – who needs it?

Surely the air quality argument was just a smokescreen?

Thanks, I’ll be here all week.

Wow, now people are complaining about the “air quality” ?

Should complain about the Folk Festival too, all the stuff those goddamn hippies smoke can’t be good for the air either.

Pathetic, people need a life.

Not to mention the methane form all those lentils……

I love the smell of rubber burnouts in the morning…
