Surf Nazis on a spree

johnboy 29 November 2010 14

The Age reports that public servants here in Canberra getting in trouble over their email and internet use is on the rise.

Some 300 public servants were investigated for “improper use of the internet or email” in 2009-10, up 55 per cent on the previous year.

A report tabled in Parliament on Thursday last week has revealed federal government employees investigated for “improper use of the internet or email” was up 54.95 per cent on the 2008-09 result.

It said “just under half” of all employees investigated worked at the Australian Taxation Office.

80% of complaints proven too. On the other hand ~240 bad eggs in an organisation so vast is pretty good.

I’ve heard that the RiotAct has been put on the blocked list at DIAC now.

A friend of mine says it’s blocked at his Defence workplace. Is RiotACT next on the list of “terrorist sites” after wikileaks?!

Work??

My girlfriend has a poster in the bedroom, portraying a man lying on the floor in a pool of blood with a handgun lying next to him, with his wife and mother-in-law gasping, “Roberto! Mio dio!”

The caption is: “Some men will do anything to get out of washing the dishes.”

In other words: no, I don’t think “work” counts as a distraction from work, not when there’s solitaire, or a newspaper, or a window through which you can see the girls walking to university, or workmates who rise to the bait any time you start talking about efficiency in the public service or exorbitant SES salaries, or a cute girl from a party you want to track down…

Nicely put and thanks for recognising the joke, and responding in kind, good giggle.

That does it. I’m starting a band called The Surf Nazis.

That was my high school band name!

Our inspiration was the cinema masterpiece “Surf Nazis Must Die”. And Robert Smith. And the chance of impressing with girls who (a) wore a lot of black and (b) did it.

In hindsight, that was a very slim chance. We were exceptionally bad.

Please revive the name and our 80s flop-hair. Unfortunately I can’t find any pix. It’s seriously unfortunate – LoveBump’s kids are getting to high school age and I want to scare them into thinking about their life decisions. I reckon a 20 year old cover band photo would have done that.

If you do any Cure or New Order or Talking Heads covers, can you please post links?

PS: This would be seriously weird if we were/will be in the same band and communicating through a Riot-Act time portal, “The Lake House” style.

Wow, Mr Kuku and I tried doing that to the Kuku jnr and Kuku ette…result?

They are huge fans of The Cure, The Clash, Talking Heads, Models etc etc. In fact they decided we needed to hear their newest ipod playlist today, on the way back from Sydney. It started with Elvis Costello and ended with Joe Strummer and both of them, aged 16 and 11, sang along, to every song.

I’m not sure if I’m bragging or going DAMN, now there’s nothing to embarrass them with.

say how many codes of conduct were investigated against SES levels

I’d hazard a guess at one or two – just for appearances’ sake, of course.

What I don’t get about the OP is why Fairfax reports twice on the same story in four days or so.

I had a read of the State of Service Report today………………shame it doesn’t break down the complaints into levels, say how many codes of conduct were investigated against SES levels?

Now, that would be a read!

Doesn’t mean it’s happening any more than before, simply that mechanisms are now being put in place to detect it more effectively.
