Out of courtesy talk to your neighbour and inform them of your plans. They may have privacy concerns about overlooking or limiting solar access. Setbacks to side and rear boundaries vary and may change further once the ACT Govt. decides the Draft Variation to the Territory Plan (DV 306).

I don’t remember who I used some 5 years ago. I just pulled names out of the phone book and got quotes. Which I recommend. Some of the quotes can be quite glaringly different, so what is essentially the same job – not too many frills for the extra cost…

Yep, the survey work isn’t really subject to quality variation that much. Main thing is availability and cost.

I used M&S survey, their pricing seemed reasonable but they were pretty heavily booked so it took a while.

THe surveyor won’t tell you how close you can go to the boundary, that stuff is for the draftsman and is dictated by zoning/planning laws.

So long as they are registered to work in the ACT I think you’ll find that the quality of the work doesn’t vary that much. I’d suggest the Yellow Pages, ring around and get some quotes.
