The Canberra Times outlines the growing crisis in swimming ranks with the closure next month of the Deakin Pool.

At the same time, the pool at Erindale will shut for refurbishment for six months from April 12, leaving no pool between Woden and Tuggeranong.

It’s going to get crowded at the remaining pools.

The tenants of the Deakin Pool have decided to close up business because of their failure to run a business, however, the future of the pool is not yet known.

Read my story! It describes the pool/hs although we never did ascertain if it was olympic sized or not. Seemed awfully short to me. Quite a lot of grass, too. It’s not a bad pool, apart from the unfortunate architecture.

Deakin pool got a gym put into it about 10 years ago. The big pool was still there too. It was on the grimy side even then.

Is Qbn pool outdoor – any grass to sit on? KIddie pool?

There’s always the Queanbo Pool! Or Pooh.

I actually thought that the Deakin pool had closed about 10 years ago until someone told me otherwise. Last I heard all those years ago was that they converted it all into a gym, maybe I was just imagining things..

An excellent rebuttal of my post Steady Eddie. You have defended yourself with flair and conviction.

Whats wrong with the phillip pool? i took my daughter there in summer and thought it was great.

Steady Eddie doesn’t personally like the Phillip pool and thus because Steady Eddie’s particular opinion doesn’t seem to accord with the intersection of supply and demand, Steady Eddie wants the Government to be Steady Eddie’s proxy in its use of violence to take over the Phillip pool and have it run according to Steady Eddie’s desires, using our tax dollars of course.

See by advocating for the Government to step in, Steady Eddie can pretend that Steady Eddie isn’t a thief and ruffian. This is a great result for Steady Eddie.

…and don’t ask me why I’ve suddenly started to really enjoy typing Steady Eddie.

And I think this ridiculous and demented post speaks for itself.

Something needs to be done about that useless Phillip pool which is just a waste of space at the moment. The ACT Govt should take it over and make it an indoor pool like Civic and Tuggeranong. This is surely a case where privatisation has definitely not worked.

OMG! No pool between Woden and Tuggeranong! That must be ,like, a 15 minute drive. However will we cope??

I believe Philip pool (at the ice skating place) is still open nights. It’s open air though and won’t be open too many more months.

The AIS pool is pretty nice. Nicer than CISAC apparently.

> CISAC is going to be packed. Is there anywhere else to go?

Civic

Dickson closed for the year on Friday. Manuka closes on the 29th.

Don’t they know Canberrans are tough – I would’ve swum at Dickson for another month at least.

CISAC is going to be packed. Is there anywhere else to go?

Deakin Pool is (was, I guess) a dump. The CT article mentions the rust, filth & outdated change rooms..it doesn’t mention the awful attitude of the pools management. I wouldn’t even go there when Civic was closed for several months recently, preferring to travel all the way to CISAC. No great loss.
