The SMH is reporting that two piggery workers from somewhere presumably nearby in NSW are being treated for “Streptococcus suis” which they are thought to have contracted from the pigs.

Doctors at Canberra Hospital have treated a 46-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, both from NSW, for fevers, sweating and severe weight loss caused by endocarditis, a serious condition where bacteria settle on the valves of the heart and spread infection throughout the body. The woman required a heart valve replacement to survive.

giggle, sometimes dad level humour is just what’s called for

Rasher promises have been made ….

*hehe*

Is there any truth that to cure swine fever you simply need to rub some oinkment on it?

Or is that a load of hogwash?

Ok, I guess I am probably hamming it up a bit much now.

Porcine puns. Nobody could have predicted that was coming, knowing this forum… Please note that I deliberately avoided calling them ‘pig puns’ because that in itself is almost a lame pun.

Ok own up! who ‘squealed” to the press?

Maybe someone who was dis-grunt-led? Unless of course they were telling porkies…

I was going to suggest they might have caught it from ACT Health admin, but yours is probably a more polite insinuation. 😉

*chuckle*

I wonder if the pork is infected ….

I wonder if it has anything to do with all the political pork barrelling that has been going on the last couple of weeks?

They’re not “being treated” (presently) – the SMH has simply picked up on a Reuters feed from this week’s medical journals – the case studies were treated at TCH a while back.

Sounds really nasty.
