Sydney in a snit over royal snub

The Sunday Telegraph is sounding hurt about Friday’s announcement of a Royal visit to Australia:

Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will arrive in Canberra on Wednesday, 19th October before travelling to Perth on Wednesday 26th October for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Additionally, the Royal couple will undertake two “away days” one to Brisbane on Monday 24th October, and one to Melbourne on Wednesday 26th October.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will depart Australia on Saturday 29th October.

Sydney? Not there? Dry your eyes dears.

Pretty sure most Sydneysiders would be happy for Canberra to look after a couple of old and irrelevant to and froms for a week.

If we are going to gloat lets find something worthwhile to gloat about for f..ks sake.

We’re not gloating. We’re sneering at Sydney’s injured sense of self-importance. I don’t care if the Queen is coming here, I’m just happy to see Sydney all indignant about something quite trivial.

and even pleased-er to hear that they’ll cop the POTUS security circus shortly. Like the filming of The Matrix on steroids.

My point is Sydney couldn’t care less. I don’t think there is any injury at all. More a sense of relief.

Half Sydney’s population would feel no connection at all to British royalty.

If you are going to Sydney bash do it properly

Why are Sydneysiders so upset about Her Maj not stopping by? Sydney’s already got an all-powerful queen. Thy name is Alan Jones

“Trashmedia Kraken” is what I believe you’re trying to grasp towards.

That seems to me a good way to put it!

And a silly little rag like the telegraph counts for less than nothing if you want facts!!!

I remember when they used to have a Page 3 Girl with not much in the way of clothing.

It’s for people who want someone to tell them what to be angry about. Sadly, there’s rather a lot of such folk around these days so expect to see this take off as a “story” and covered by other Sydney-centric media.

Pretty much, it’s ACA in print!

I had the opportunity to read a Tele the other day. Bloody hell – what a rag! Propaganda and football. Does anyone actually read that crap?

Well it’s much better than The Canberra Times. Come to think about it, *anything* is better than the Crimes.

This is getting to the point of comparing commodores, seriosly, ones crap, the others crap!

Ah isn’t it the newspaper and not the actual Sydneysiders who is having the whinge? And woudn’t that be just to sell papers and make money for their beloved boss?

Always good to actually comment on the facts (and no, I’m not a Sydneysider)

Yep!!!

Maybe the fact that Mr Obama won’t be visiting Canberra on his upcoming trip will make up for it.

Good. You know what happens when a US President is in town. They’re welcome to him!

Damn right!

If ever there was a reflection of a total lack of republican sentiment in Australia, this would have to be it!

Maybe the fact that Mr Obama won’t be visiting Canberra on his upcoming trip will make up for it.

Just wait til Melbourne realises that she’s goitta be there and Perth on the same day (if theyre lucky, they might see her at the airport for an hour).

you can bet the pain is a million times more biting to the smogneysiders because queenie is taking a day to pop down to melbourne.

Sydney sees itself as the First City of Australia, the most important one. I doubt Darwin, Adelaide and Hobart will be whining as though they had some kind-of entitlement to a visit. Sydney, however, will take some time to recover from the shock of thwarted expectation.
