Symonston Caravan Park Death gets warmed over by Markus Mannheim

RiotACT favourite, Markus Mannheim was back in the Canberra Times rehashing the strange death of Daniel Beck in a Symonston Caravan Park on Boxing Day 2003.

It’s an odd approach in a case like this, to take the mother of the deceased’s version of events seemingly at face value, especially with lines like this:

DANIEL Beck, 27, was sitting with his mother, Deborah Wirth, outside his caravan home in Fyshwick when a neighbour walked past.

She clearly remembers the moment, now sharply etched by hindsight.

“Daniel turned and told me, ‘I don’t like that bloke …’,” she recalled this week.

Ms. Wirth has lost her son in tragic circumstances, I’d expect her to take carry her grief all the rest of her days. Should it be on the front page of the Canberra Times though?

point taken its just i have lived in there for seven years, and it never failed to amaze some people who were anti caravan parks, when id invite them in for a cuppa. my trailer although not new and old, inside it was decked out with a thoroughly modern kitchen with all mod cons from d/washer to Air con. the laundry was equally equipped and the annexe was a sun room reasonable lounge and spare bedroom. the visitors often used to go wondering what was the point of paying a monstorous mortgage when for one fifth they were able to buy outta the box an instant luxury home.

this is why the older generation/ empty nesters are moving in . one day ill do the same rather than live in a choc box attached to a hospital.

Yes white trash can live in the burbs as well as trailer parks… well pointed out….. I don’t discriminate… I will call them by there rightful name at all times… even if I become one myself

one : Absent Diane, Not all who choose to live in caravan parks are “white Trash”.

two: some of those trailers are better decked out than some “respectable homes”

Three the rents are better than some dumps on offer in the “burbs”.

Four: when tired of the Trailer you just sell it and then buy a whole new one and place it on the site, so renovate and detonate not the new thing in caravan parks as its been going on for decades.

five: so two idiots got into a fight and one was killed, this happens in surburbia all the time and is relagated as ho hum but BAM! it takes place in a caravan park and its subject of scruitny by all those who are predjudiced toward those who elect not to sink mega dollars in to bricks and mortar.

and i agree with Mr Evil its better to walk away but if they follow then no choice.

And to think it was all over a bloody crappy Beer Stein! I guess there was a lot of other ongoing shit involved too, but sometimes you wonder if it isn’t just better to walk away instead of getting the pulp beaten out of you over stupid shit.
