$12,000 worth of synthetic cannabis has been seized from adult stores across Canberra reports ABC News.

Officers from the ACT Policing Drug Team raided shops in Fyshwick, Hume and Civic and seized approximately 200 packs of prohibited brands such as K2 (or Kronic), and Spice.

The items have been sent to the ACT Government Analytical Laboratory for testing.

No charges have been laid, but police are not ruling out further action.

It is the first time police have conducted raids searching for synthetic cannabis, saying that until now there had been no evidence it was being sold in the ACT.

i have seen that many people raise the point that it should be legalized and revenue be made out of it. But what about the overuse then.
Overuse off anything is bad whether it may be sugar, salt or cannabis !
some restrictive policies must be made before legalizing it !

Remind me never to buy an ounce from you.

I’ll throw in another 4 grams for free…

Just that probably selling it in larger quantities was still considered trafficing, but using and posessing personal amounts without selling was fine?

It’s called “commercial” quantity, which is something way beyond what is considered a quantity for personal use (one ounce, or 24grams).

Irrespective of whether you are selling it or not, you are facing possible criminal charges if you are caught in possession of large quantity of it.

Remind me never to buy an ounce from you.

$12,000…big score! I wonder if the operation cost more to run!

Sounds like a huge waste of police resources and tax payer’s money to me.

While this is a crack down on a product which was (formerly) traded legally, and presumably taxed (cause those ‘adult’ stores out in Fyshwick never skim cash pre-tax…..) and therefore the kind of prohibition I don’t usually support, the fact is this is a manufactured product specifically designed to be the same as pot, while skirting the laws banning actual pot. Preliminary studies have raised all sorts of issues with the quality/strength/effects of the stuff, so banning it seems like a sound move to me.

This is totally different from the current ban on pot grown naturally in dirt and under the sun.

I was under the impression that it was basically decriminalised in Canberra already. Just that probably selling it in larger quantities was still considered trafficing, but using and posessing personal amounts without selling was fine?

I guess this just comes under the selling larger amounts of it. It is definitely better here than in some places of the US where many are locked up for posession of tiny amounts. But you may be right in that selling should be fine also. It could be taxed and regulated even.

About half the US states have medical or decriminalised cannabis and in two of those cannabis is legal so they are on balance much more advanced and liberal than Australia. Who’da thunk it?

Aren’t their FBI going around arresting people in those states regardless?

Sounds like a huge waste of police resources and tax payer’s money to me.

The sooner the non-synthetic variety is decriminalised the better. It makes little sense, some states in the US are already waking up to the pointlessness of it and instead turning into revenue.

Of course those who make their living on the back of keeping it illegal have a vested interest in keeping it that way.
