Syringe wielding taxi robber collared in Haig Park (where else?)

By johnboy - 23 January 2012 5

ACT Policing has arrested a 32-year-old Queanbeyan man following an aggravated robbery on a taxi driver in Turner last night (22 January).

Around 6.40pm a man approached the window of a taxi and enquired about a fare. He then leaned into the taxi, pointed a syringe at the driver and demanded money.

The alleged offender and taxi driver engaged in a struggle before the driver reversed the taxi and the man left. The taxi driver called police with a description of the alleged offender and his location.

Police arrived at Haig Park in Turner and arrested the alleged offender. He was taken to the ACT Watch House and charged with attempted aggravated robbery.

The man is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today and bail will be opposed.

Anyone who may be able to assist with the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

Step 1: Hold crim’s arm in door.
Step 2: Drive away while continuing to hold arm in door.
Step 3: Laugh at badly hurt crim and remind him that his own stupidity caused his situation.
