T-shirt censorship in schools

The ABC reports that the ACT’s school principals are showing the commitment to values from which parents are fleeing in droves and are barring students from selling “Save Our Schools” T-shirts on school grounds.

Voltaire who?

As I doubt the principals themselves have a problem with the “Save Our Schools” we can only speculate as to where the directive came from.

Next thing the kids will be wanting to use the Save Our Schools idea as a concept for the bloody Rock Eisteddfod.

Good on the principals for banning that. Politics should be left out of school hours.

I just wonder when the idiots whinging about the school closures are going to get a brain. There are far more positives to closing them than to keeping them open… but going on the intellect of the general population it kind of doesn’t suprise me.

Schools are traditionally supposed to be non-political areas and I believe teachers aren’t allowed to openly push their political views — they can encourage debate but not coerce.

My dad tells a story of wearing a pro-Whitlam badge to school and being told by a teacher the school wasn’t a place to make political statements, whether supporting Fraser or “that other guy”.

They need to print a T-shirt with “Boot Stanhope Out” in front of schools closing, dragways, arboretums, prison.

I’d buy one.
