Hi fellow Canberrans!

We are three ANU engineering graduates who would like to share with you our invention!

In 2014, Dr Steve Lee from the Australian National University was awarded the ANSTO Eureka prize for most innovative use of technology. We spent the next 12 months designing a device that can make his plastic lenses in the easiest, cheapest and fastest way. We are very excited to share with you our invention, Droplet Lens Maker!

Our invention takes a solution of silicon and forms it into a magnifying lens by using gravity! We have received national coverage from our invention through organisations such as COSMOS . Our vision is to start a company that focuses on integrating modern technology (smartphones and tablets) into science experiments in schools.

The applications of a low-cost and easy to fabricate lens is across of range of industries. In education, the lens can be used for science experience in optics, biology and chemistry. In agriculture, the lens can be used to convert a smartphone into a mobile microscope which will allow a new method of non-destructive testing for disease in crops. In health, mobile microscopes can allow greater access for patients where they cannot access the proper equipment and specialist to diagnose them. We believe our invention can be applicable and beneficial to all these fields.

We need the help of the Canberra community to get the word out to the world. We want to let as many people as we can, know what great inventions are being discovered in Canberra.

Thank you everyone that’s backed our project. We recently got published in the Canberra times (http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-news/anu-graduates-say-smartphones-can-add-spice-science-in-schools-20150710-gi9w8k)

We still need a lot of support from the canberra community to make our dream come true. Please back us! It doesn’t have to be much, even $1 will mean a lot for us. Thanks!

Sorry guys, I know the process is tedious! (Something kickstarter has to change…)

We really need Canberrans to pledge! The more backers we get, the greater the exposure we have globally!

Just tried to make a pledge, spent quite a while trying to deal with all the boxes including my card details which I try never to put onto the web, then it declined to accept the pledge! This is all just too frustrating & life is too short. Come up with a simpler method of helping & I will gladly do so.

These online forms can be quite difficult, I agree. But stick with it, it does work in the end.

You can find out more about the droplet lens, including some really cool photos, in this ANU Reporter article http://adobe.ly/1G88eHB
