Tales from Tuggeranong - The Red Menace

Melbourne has its “Yellow Peril” sculpture at Southbank and Tuggeranong has its “Red Menace” not just one but two.

What looks like a giant red Bogon Moth has now been joined by another huge red monstrosity, a pedestrian bridge over Drakeford Drive.

I accept a pedestrian bridge is needed near the school, but surely architects and designers could have used their imagination and come up with something that is appealing, compliments the area and doesn’t look as though it belongs in an industrial area.

We are a capital city, so lets lead the way in architecture and design.

For the illiterates commenting in this thread, Dorothy Dix was attempting to compare Canberran public art and infrastructure to Communism.

Not sure what the comparison is based on though.

It’s all hearsay at this point… pics, or it didn’t happen!

They both look like the Greater Western Sydney footy jumper with the big “G” on it.
This has conspiracy theory written all over it.

The moth I could take or leave, but I think the industrial style bridge looks fantastic.

By the way, they are both bright orange. Not even close to red.

I think both are cool. Pretty sure both are orange…yep, definitely orange.

Went past it on the weekend. Personally i’m happy with the bridge, but i’d have to agree that the colour is waaaaay bright! It certainly doesn’t ‘blend in’ with the surroundings – or anything really! hahahaha!
You can see it from Tharwa….

i think both are great

Like someone already said, the moth and the bridge are nowhere near the colour red. They are a bright orange. The OP sounds like they are trying to be sophisticated and arty and hip by whinging that architects are not using their imagination. Yet they sound like a troll when theybdon’t even the get the colour of what they are whingeing about correct.

How many $millions did that bridge cost? The school kids still cross (against) the lights 200 metres to the south.

It’s not the old red bridge.

more reminiscent of the Golden Gate bridge in both size and hue.

A bit like these ones?

Red bridge? Do you have photos?

Sounds like the old Belco Mall walkway has found a new home? http://the-riotact.com/the-belconnen-red-bridge-departs/40880

Wasn’t it supposed to go to Molonglo Reach? http://the-riotact.com/the-belco-red-bridge-to-be-reborn-on-molonglo-reach/67185

If it actually is the old Belco bridge they’ve used down there in Tuggeranong, I would suggest that it was an excellent example of recycling saving the ACT taxpayer hundreds of thousands of dollars.
