The Liberals’ Alistair Coe is all riled up at responses to his Freedom Of Information requests:
In May 2010, FOI requests for copies of internal audit reports were lodged with the Department of Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) and the Department of Housing and Community Services (DHCS).
While DHCS rejected the application on the basis that it would undermine the integrity of its internal audits, TAMS released copies in the interest of open government and compliance with FOI laws.
A second request for copies of DHCSs internal audit reports was also rejected.
…
I can only presume that DHCSs internal audits were as scathing as the ACT Ombudsmans assessment of the Department, which found many Canberrans in need of priority public housing are missing out due to its own procedural shortcomings.
If ACT Labor was committed to open government through parliamentary and public scrutiny, it would allow the release of both Departments reports.
The outcome is almost certainly going to be less information from TAMS.
