Tasers!

The ABC reports that the AFP’s Special Response and Security team is being given taser stun guns.

Civil Liberties Australia is, again, doing a disservice to the name of Civil Liberties by objecting to the move.

I could see some (not much) merit to their position if they were talking about normal police patrols where misuse in the general public could be a concern.

But if the black pyjama brigade are involved it really is an alternative to shooting. I think most of us would rather take our chances with the stun gun.

C’mon James-T-Kirk say it: Tazers on stun!

Wow. It is 40 years since Star Trek (TM) was released.

Noo.

I am totally agaings Tazers – They might only hurt people instaid of simply killing them

Then, they will be confusing the courts by telling ‘their version of the events’

I rekon we should encourage the ACT police to use the victorian method.

“*bang* -wait 3 seconds- Stop, or I’ll shoot.”

Makes for shorted waits in court.

And the pyjama brigade aren’t Supermen, they aren’t the one’s who will be dealing with incidents on the street

No more risky than OC spray. The same accountability chain exists for whoever have them.

They should be standard issue for the majority of Police

If we’re talking the black pyjama brigade then we may be at the point of shoot or be shot. If these things are a viable alternative to bullets then great, but whether they will be as effective needs to be carefully assessed. Handing them to regular cops is, I think, risky.

Anything that provides an alternative/extra option to shooting someone has got to be a good thing.

Hand them out to all the cops.

If I remember correctly the tasers are nothing new and the pyjama cops have had them for a while.

I would far prefer an individual hell bent of violence lying, writhing in agony rather than stabbing folks at random, or shooting at ACT citizenry (cops incl.).
