tasty time laksa

Nestled at the top of City Walk Tasty Time is an asian eatery without pretence.

Food is whipped from display fridges into the microwave and into customers hands in a way that is, to the newcomer, slightly alarming.

It’s not that other restaurants don’t do much the same thing, it’s just normally they don’t make the sausage right in front of you.

But they’re fast, and you have to admire their honesty.

A reader had recommended their beef laksa so yesterday I headed in.

Sadly they were out of the beef, instead I opted for the BBQ pork.

You have to choose what sort of noodle you want, I asked the smiling girl what she’d have and she decided the hokkien noodles were the best bet.

Any laksa is really just a collection of ingredients with a coconut milk curry soup poured over the top.

Tasty Time aspire to be a thai style laksa and for mine I prefer the dish with more curry in the soup.

This laksa won’t make you sweat, for better or worse.

But for $9 it’s undoubtedly tasty, quick, and comes in a cool bowl.

(For more sub $10 lunches in Civic check the tag, if you’ve got recommendations let me know.)

Bumping this as it is a current favourite of mine, for $7.00 I get the best curry I can find in the city, spooned carefully over freshly cut veges next to an ample plonk of rice. Red or green, they’re both excellent, and they don’t leave any oily or fishy after taste that is so often evident in this style of food. They’ve also added massaman curry and a pork chilli dish to the $7.00 menu. Definitely on my circuit as I try and maximise my $8.00 or less lunch choices.

Still waiting for a review from Sunrise milkbar. $7 Lasagna or Moussaka. I keep wanting to try but am dragged past it’s doors by my hipper less retro food orientated companions.

The ammount of grease in the dish makes it look like a great hangover feed 😛

yeah man, Tasty time is a really good please.

The chicken pad thai for $7.00 and beef dry stir fry is excellent for 9.00 i believe.

Good times, tasty times.
