Taxi driver 1, idiot with knife 0

By johnboy - 24 October 2011 12

ACT Policing has arrested a 21-year-old Banks man following the aggravated robbery of a taxi driver last night (Sunday, October 23) in Canberra’s south.

About 6.00pm a taxi driver drove the alleged offender to an address in Gordon. When the taxi driver asked for payment for the fare, the alleged offender told the driver he was not going to pay and that he was in possession of a knife.

The victim then proceeded to drive to the Tuggeranong Police Station. During the drive to the station, the alleged offender held a knife to the victim and told him he was not going to pay for the fare.

The victim arrived at the Tuggeranong Police Station where the alleged offender was arrested. He was taken to the ACT Watch House and will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with aggravated robbery.

Do the cabs have those alerts to base panic buttons nowadays?

All cabs have panic buttons and security cameras. If the driver is on the ball, he’ll have brother cabbies and the police heading towards him to assist. I’ve participated in a few of these episodes myself, both as button-pusher and helper.

Now if only we could get this taxi driver to sort out the judges in this town there’d be even less losers out on the streets

He’ll use the old ‘bad childhood’ or ‘addicted to drugs’ excuse and get a good behaviour bond. Think otherwise? Im taking bets.

Terrifying for the driver; it’s become one of the riskiest jobs there is. I hope he is able to get over it.

Good to see that lately, a lot of the filth is being taken off our streets, but it does make you wonder at how much is still out there…

ABC News has a story on this. Apparently the accused was on bail as an alleged accessory to that Hughes shops shooting.

And the classiness continued as he punched the wall on being refused bail.

If I’m reading this right, the taxi driver drove with a knife held to him. That would take some guts to do, and obviously (and luckly) the offender has absolutely no balls.

He tried to rip-off a cabie. Of course he has no balls.
