It’s interesting that he has been charged with intentional GBH. I must admit that the first time I saw the story I had assumed tht it was as a result of the driver having too much of his attention on the despatch computer and not enough on the road. As usual.

They’ve made an arrest now.

” Devil’s advocate here.”

I’d be suprised if this action was unprovoked. Given that taxi drivers are hugely underpaid, and placed under enormous pressure by owners to maximise income from each shift, I hypothesise that the driver saw red, and paid the passenger back for an underpayment.”

Many tears ago, riding shotgun in a cab on a Sunday morming, this cab transported an aging alco to hospital from Ainslie Avenue after he had been bitten by a snake as he ‘rested’ on his walk from Ainslie Hostel to the Civic Hotel.”

The cab driver had the hospital staff reveal next of kin, and we ended up beating on a rellies door in Aranda requiring payment.”

The cab industry is a dog of a business, and fairness has no place.”

Nor would it seem the industry has a place for compassion, the bloke was bitten by a snake, regardless of your attempt to justify your story by describing him as an aging alco, and I would expect most people would take him to a hospital as that would be the right thing to do in a situation like that. I also wonder just how the cabbie would feel if someone came knocking on his door to complain about his “scenic tour” fare home the night before after obtaining his personal and private information from having staff at the cab company pass it on

If he doesn’t come forward then arrange to have all the taxis inspected for panel damage during the course of a day.

They can turn the GPS off apparently in the car so they might not have been able to track it.

Unprovoked? Running someone over with a car is clearly an act aimed at killing or maiming.

Taxi drivers have a crap time of it I’m sure, but there are bad people in that industry just as there are in any other walk of life.

Yes, taxis have cameras in them, who gets to decide what the camera records and who erases the recordings? Shouldn’t be too many cabs in Evatt at that precise time.

I’m sure they can narrow it down by the other cab’s whereabouts.. The other drivers on that night will be lining up with their evidence of where they were.

Not to mention the likely damage to the vehicle.

The other thing would be the drivers mobile.. Those things should be easy to track which cell tower and thus who did that journey

Perhaps there is a bit more to the story than the cops have indicated. It all sounds a bit strange to me.

That sucks. I hope the guy is ok.

It was obviously a cash job as Canberra Cabs can monitor there taxis at all times. They can tell when the driver has picked up a passenger and dropped them off etc. It they can’t work out who the Cabbie is then it is definitely suspicious.

Shouldn’t they all have permanently turned on GPS tracking?
