Taylor Primary School has had a $13 million makeover, and will be opening it’s doors again next year. The school was closed last year due to structural damage discovered in March.

Joy Burch is excited.

“Taylor Primary School is an important part of our community, and I’m pleased that next year the students will feel that they are walking into a brand new school,” said Ms Burch.

The ACT Government allocated close to $13 million in the 2012-13 ACT Budget for the rectification and upgrade of Taylor Primary School.

“The decision to undertake a major upgrade has given us the opportunity to re-fit it the school with new state-of-the-art classrooms. Taylor Primary School will be a modern and vibrant 21st century learning environment.”

The child care centre on the site is also being expanded from 24 to 65 places.

“Works on the project will include the expansion of the on-site childcare facility as part of our commitment to deliver more childcare places across Canberra.”

Students and staff who were relocated to Namadgi School for 2013 will return to the Taylor Primary School site for the start of the 2014 school year.

So much money spent, so much hard work put in, ridiculous time frames and still completed on time. Yet no praise from anybody? So disappointing.

Lego school still exists and looks even more like lego than before.

Yes, it’s good they got it fixed, but it should not have been allowed to reach a point in the first place that a potentially hazardous structure should have been in such decay, they a storm could cause that damage. All the schools had HazMat surveys in the late 2000s, so they knew where the stuff was, and the condition of it.

Was it on budget?

If it was, then the government certainly deserves some praise. Especially given how much flack they cop for other trivial matters
