Teddy Bears to get their picnic

The Teddy Bears childcare centre have been granted a 12 month extension to their lease in what is now the ESA building in Curtin.

Last week they were only offered a six-month extension, because the building was allegedly named by Emergency Services Commissioner Peter Dunn as a terrorist target, which he then denied saying and then took back this denial.

However the parents who patronise the centre and the ACT Opposition are saying the government should either guarantee a longer lease, help the centre move somewhere else or just build a new ESA headquarters like they promised.

Vicki Dunne has a rather amusing press release on the latest chapter in this saga, in which she calls John Hargreaves “a silly old bear” who’s had his stuffing knocked out of him.

This got me thinking about which ACT politicians are like teddy bears, because Mr Hargreaves is a bit skinny to be truly soft and cuddly. However I was informed by someone wiser that Mrs Dunne should perhaps be more careful with her usage of the word bear, given its other connotations.

Most surprising thing to discover on the wikipedia entry is that the word “woof” apparently has a special meaning to bears. Which suggests that Lord Flashheart on Blackadder may have been a bear.

Which does explain the attraction to Baldrick, actually….

Che, what “woods” are you referring to? I thought they were all been burnt in 2003!

I see you have the wikipedia link there. I was going to mention that the term ‘bear’ has gay connotations.

so what do Teddy Bears do in the woods?

Oh dear Sam, wrong thoughts happening here…he fits the teddy…and he’s a friend of my grandparents and all. now i’m going to be stuck with that picture.

Ted Quinlan fits the teddy part, not sure about the bear part though.
