The miracle of YouTube brings us details of the latest exhibition at the Canberra Museum and Gallery which should excite all the true nerds amongst us:

Telephones Forever
Sat 29 June — Sun 1 September
Open Collections Gallery

This exhibition presents the extraordinary telephone collection of Neil Baker, a long-time Canberra resident and former Senior Technician at Old Parliament House. Neil owns over 300 phones with the oldest dating back to 1894 — less than twenty years after the device was invented!

Before we moved to Canberra in 1970 there was one of those phones in my uncle’s restaurant. He had to get rid of it because customers were complaining that when you put the phone down onto the counter the call was cut off.

i noticed in a 7.30 report story that the ATC tower at Canberra Airport also uses Ericofons.
