From the release:

The ACT Government wishes to advise motorists and other road users that there will be partial road closures along Lady Denman Drive and Clunies Ross Street between 9.30 am and 3.30 pm from Monday 22 April to Thursday 25 April 2013.

The following detours will be in place:

— Traffic travelling westbound on Parkes Way can exit onto Lady Denman Drive but access will be blocked to Clunies Ross Street.

— Lady Denman Drive will remain open to westbound traffic, however it will be closed to eastbound traffic between Forest Drive and Garryowen Drive. Access for local traffic will be maintained.

— A section of Clunies Ross Street beneath the Parkes Way overpass will be closed.

Clunies Ross Street will remain open between Barry Drive and the Parkes Way onramp.

The closures are to allow for the placement of two bridge beams over Clunies Ross Street for the Parkes Way widening project.

Further closures are expected in May to allow for the placement of the remainder of the bridge beams.

Barriers as well as warning and diversion signs will be erected to alert people to the closures.

The ACT Government thanks motorists and other road users for their patience during this work.

For up-to-date information on road closures please call Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.

Also, here’s a map if you need it.

Does anyone know why we have a road next to a road?

Lady Denman Drive was there before Parkes Way and Tuggeranong Parkway. It was the road into the city from that area.

Assumedly for similar reasons that Sydney has both the M4 and Parramatta Rd.

And this can not be done away from high traffic times? This will affect access to the ANU, to Black Mountain and to the ANBG over this week. Could this not be done say 8.30pm through 5.30 am over this period, or is the idea of doing Road Works out of normal business hours foreign to the notions of the Canberra Businesses? “It is dark”, well get some flood lights.

Get over yourself.

Seeing that you consider shift work to be a piece of p*ss it’s obviously the solution for you, working from 8.30 PM through to 5.30 AM. That way you won’t be inconvenienced.

Sensible. Middle of the day in school holidays second week, where a significant number of the child rearing population will be taking a weeks leave so somewhere warm before winter.

For once, absolutely fantastic planning.

OLydia, you have no idea….

I don’t believe it,we’re only going to be inconvenienced for a total of 24 hours over 4 days!!! Yep no doubt about it all of Canberra’s road workers have been diverted to the site under the direction of the GG.

Does anyone know why we have a road next to a road?

So the GG doesn’t have to mix with the common folk! der!

This has to be one of the best combinations of NIMBY, GenY, ignorance, and commonsense bereft comments ever on this forum. Well done.

Also, the temptation for the bridge comment was strong here, too.

In the spirit of RA Id like to say that it doesnt affect me so Im happy the Govt is saving money by doing work in normal hours and not spending an extra fortune doing it at hours that suit others. As is well established now when you pay taxes, rates etc they are meant to be used directly on what helps you and not/not for any community benefit beyond.

Please note #1 I refrained from saying “build a bridge!”. Boom Boom Mr Derek..

Get over it. Seriously, about the only impact this will have is that some people may have to take a 5 minute detour to get to where they need to go, or plan a different route. But you’d rather force people to work all night – with all the the extra difficulty, danger and expense that involves – so nobody need suffer a mild inconvenience?
