Want to say thanks to your Mum for everything she’s done for you this year and all the others besides?

Here’s our list of 10 ways you can spoil her this Mother’s Day (so she’ll be happily surprised).

Whether you want to keep it simple with an offering of a bunch of flowers or a bottle of wine, or organise a really special experience for her, we’ve got you covered.

A bunch of flowers

A bouquet of flowers is the classic gift and one that’s sure to put a smile on Mum’s face (even if it might not totally come as a surprise).

But if you get your flowers from GG’s Flowers & Hampers your Mum isn’t the only winner – GG’s is a social enterprise florist that employs and trains more than 35 Canberrans living with special needs.

Therefore, not only have you got a pretty bouquet to show Mum how much you love her, but your money is going to a good cause.

Matt Farrah

A bottle of wine

Well, they do say sometimes it’s best to keep things really simple.

Why not choose a special drop from Farrah’s Liquor Collective to make her feel really special. After all, nobody ever complained about getting a bottle of wine, did they?

Whether she’s a red, white or rose drinker (or even all three) – or prefers a top-shelf specialty liquor – Farrah’s extensive collection will have something that suits.

Yass Community Markets

A day trip to the Yass Valley

Got a little more time on your hands and really want to take Mum somewhere special?

Given that overseas travel is clearly off the cards, why not stay a little closer to home and see all that Yass has to offer?

There are plenty of hidden retail treasures for you and her to explore together as well as wineries, cafes and restaurants. After all, it is Mother’s Day – so make the most of all of it.

Donate to Karinya House May Day Appeal and host a ‘Gala at Home’

Every year in May, Karinya House celebrates the women in their community who inspire them.

Usually, they would hold a Gala, but this year they are encouraging people to host their own dinner party at home.

Guests are encouraged to make a small donation to the May Day Appeal to continue to support the work they do in the community.

It’s a great way to spend some quiet quality time with Mum while also doing your bit to help out an essential Canberra institution that supports pregnant women and new mums.

A visit to Haig Park Markets

Is there a better way of spending a Sunday than at the Haig Park Village Markets?

Organisers are putting on a special market event this year with live music, pop-up bars as well as lots of new stall-holders selling jewellery, candles, fashion and beauty products.

There will also be lots of high-quality produce stalls as usual – so there’s something to please every mum, no matter what their tastes.

CIMF 2021: Finale – Song of the Earth

Is Mum a music lover? Well, why not surprise her with tickets to the finale of the Canberra International Music Festival?

It will be a night she’ll never forget thanks to Mahler’s greatest symphony, Song of the Earth. The work was inspired by seven ancient Chinese poems and follows one of the most painful episodes in the composer’s life.

It will be performed by renowned artists Sally-Anne Russell, Andrew Goodwin and the entire festival ensemble.

What better way to finish up the festival and round out your Sunday with Mum?

Tickets are available online.

Mother’s Day Classic local

The Mother’s Day Classic fun run has gone local again for 2021.

In Canberra, the event will be held at Lake Burley Griffin as well as around Lake Ginninderra. You can pick between a 5 km and 10 km course, and there are various start times as well.

Not only is it a great excuse to get out in the sun, it’s also raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research.

Day spa

A visit to a day spa

We all know Mum deserves to be spoiled on her special day, so why not treat her to a voucher or package at one of Canberra’s best day spas?

Endota Spa uses organic, natural, Australian-made skincare to provide a wide range of facials and massage treatments. Rejuvenating spa packages are available.

An outdoor picnic

Hopefully, the weather stays fine for Mum, so what better day to head out to one of Canberra’s most picturesque locations to enjoy a picnic under the afternoon sun?

Whether it’s the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, the Arboretum or the Botanic Gardens, Canberra is awash with beautiful autumnal colours.

Even if you want to stay local, prepare a hamper at home and head out for a walk around your suburb to the nearest park or oval.
