rollers on the lawn

The Weekly Times is giving warning that this Sunday sees the Patrick White Lawns of the National Library playing host to the Terribly British day.

The motoring festival, a celebration of British vehicles of all kinds, is organised by the Jaguar Drivers Club and draws enthusiasts from around the country.

Event chairman Paul Sutton said this year was expected to be the biggest ever, with more than 350 cars, commercials and motorcycles on display.

It’s always nice to see the old rollers make their annual trip out from their sheds.

Hi, first time poster… In fact I just registered so I could post this up.

I’ve just been told by one of the organisers that due to the amount of rain we’ve been having, Terribly British Day has been cancelled/called-off/postponed:(

Apparently they were trying to secure a tarmac car park in the triangle but that was also a ‘no go’.

Well that’s just not cricket! The Canberra tow truck drivers will be most displeased their cash cow for Christmas has wimped out despite mother nature providing perfect British conditions!

It’s a pity you won’t get to see some modern British cars; Ariel Atom, Ascari A10, McLaren MP4-12C and king of the Nurburgring the Radical SR8.

If the lawns weren’t killed off by Foreshore, 10,000 litres of Castrol rapidly dripping out of the collective Best of Britain surely will finish the job 🙂

If the weather does anything I’ll leave my Yankee muscle at home, well clear of this pommie rubbish!

Come on Captain, I’m sure that American muscle cars helped tow stricken pommie rubbish off the beaches of Normandy etc. We are allies so bring some American iron out to show them how to build cars…

I hope they bring drip trays so the oil doesnt kill the grass……..

Apart from the Rollers good sport to be had watching sad cases dishing out loving and tender mechanical care on basket case engineering.

Basket case engineering which has lasted for decades and is still running, that would be.

Mind you, I do hope nobody shows up in one of those great vintage Aussie cars, respected and renowned and collected the world over like the; “______ _______” and shows up those Brit cars for the rubbish they appear to be to you.

(Fill in the gap yourself.)

Ok, I will ‘Ford Falcon’.

There are collectors in the UK, Japan and the USA, in fact there are clubs that have regular get togethers, and the lights on them actually work!

That’s fine for you car owners. But since I don’t own a boat, and have no need for an anchor, I won’t be buying an American Motorcycle.

No doubt the Prince of Darkness will be making his presence felt. And they should issue drip trays to all cars in attendance. As a former owner or a couple of British cars (Jags and Landrovers) I can appreciate the passion for these fine automobiles and the heartaches that they can cause.

Bugger, I’m working.

Seems they’ve brought the British weather with them to create an authentic back drop too.
